District 187 Virtual Backpack Guidelines

Welcome! The District 187 Virtual Backpack is a platform to share information about student opportunities and community resources.

Who can submit materials?

• Non-profit and not-for-profit North Chicago area organizations
• District 187 business partners

What types of materials are allowed?

• Flyers about activities or programs that are:
  • Educational in nature (e.g., tutoring, workshops)
  • Related to events or opportunities for students (e.g., clubs, field trips)
  • Offered by widely appealing recreational programs
  • Community-wide and relevant to District 187 boundaries ([Your District's Location]-based)
• Flyers must be accessible:
  • Submitted as ADA Compliant PDFs or Google Docs
  • Include tags and Alt Text for images

What is not allowed?

• Flyers promoting commercial organizations (unless approved with rationale)
• Activities conflicting with existing school programs
• Flyers soliciting for local service organizations

How to submit a flyer:

• Submit your flyer at least one week before the desired posting date.
• Flyers are typically posted for one month or until the event date (whichever is shorter).
• If your flyer requires edits, we will notify you via email.
• You can specify if your request is for a particular school building.

Additional guidelines:

• We reserve the right to limit organizations to six postings per school year.
• The Virtual Backpack is available year-round.
• Materials are posted for informational purposes only. District 187 does not endorse any agencies or their programs.

The College and Career Center is hosting our first-ever Career Readiness Week for juniors and seniors, packed with events to prepare you for the Career Fair on Monday, March 17th.

Here's the lineup:

• Monday:

  • Resume Writing Workshop with NCCP - 3rd & 4th periods (Bring your Chromebook!)

• Tuesday:

  • LinkedIn Workshop with NCCP - 4th period (Bring your Chromebook or device!)

  • Professional Headshots with Media Club - 4th, Lunch B, or Lunch C (Dress for success!)

• Thursday:

  • Financial Considerations for Your First Job with Mr. Albert Wilson (Citibank) - 8th period

• Friday:

  • Mock Interviews (RSVP required - check your email for your assigned time) - various times (before school, 1st, Lunch B, Lunch C, 8th, after school)

Important Notes:

• Mock interview RSVPs are mandatory, and time slots are limited. Check your email for details.

• You cannot RSVP for mock interviews during core classes, Tech, or Work Study.

• Don't forget the Career Fair on March 17th!

New Root is hosting a Freshman Student Day of Action on February 26, 2025, inviting professionals and NCCHS alumni to inspire freshmen as they explore career paths. Volunteers will engage students in an alumni panel, help them develop and present 30-second introduction pitches, discuss vision boards, and conduct mock interviews. The 5-hour commitment (9:30 AM - 2:30 PM) includes a brief orientation (9:40 AM - 10:00 AM). Volunteers must bring a government-issued ID, and a light breakfast and lunch will be provided. See the flyer and promotional video for more details, and register via the provided link. Sharing this opportunity is encouraged even if you cannot volunteer.

The Dentist is coming on February 3rd to North Chicago Community High School. Save yourself some time by letting Smile Programs the mobile dentist take care of your child's teeth. Cleanings and Fluoride treatments are provided. Consent forms were sent home via mail. Please fill out the form and return it to the Health Office. Or use the QR code on the registration form to fill out all the requirements prior to January 25th. (This is a 9th grade requirement)
