Leader in Me
Habit 1: Be Proactive
This week's focus is all about emotions. Talk with your kids about what some examples of emotions are (happy, sad, angry, surprised, scared, disappointed, etc) and give examples of when they may feel these emotions. Talk about ways to respond to how they are feeling. Use the calming cards (take a break, ask for help, exercise, use senses) as examples of what to do when you want to calm down; then come up with ideas together and create those cards as well.

Aquatics Center Survey
Interested in having an aquatics center near PLHS? The City of San Diego has proposed building an aquatic center in Liberty Station at Naval Training Center (NTC) Park. The project may include constructing a competition pool, recreational pool, leisure pool and facilities with locker rooms.
Let your voice and ideas be heard in the survey BEFORE October 4.
Our PLHS aquatics program is advocating for a larger center that is suitable for regional programming. They suggest answering question #17's "additional comments" section by asking the city to expand the footprint to include an additional 50-meter competition pool and to remove the existing 1990s building from the plan and consider a new building with more flexibility.
MONTHLY ATTENDANCE LETTERS
- Monthly Attendance Letters are letters to inform parents/guardians of their child’s attendance since the time of their enrollment this school year.
- Letters this year will be sent out every other month beginning the first week in October. Only students whose attendance is “Nearly Chronically Absent” or “Chronically Absent” will receive a letter.
- Letters will be issued electronically to parents if they have provided an email address during enrollment. Families that we do not have an email address on file in PowerSchool will be provided a hardcopy.3.
- Family Services Assistants (FSA) will work with your site staff to generate hardcopies that can be distributed to students and taken home.
- Districtwide we have seen a decrease in chronic absenteeism over the past two years and we hope to continue to engage in positive ways to keep our students in school.
· Begin communicating to your school community that these letters will be distributed.
- Chronically Absent: when a student misses 10% or more of the school days they are enrolled in during a school year.
- Nearly Chronically Absent: 8% - 10%

ATTENDANCE & SICKNESS PROTOCOL
Please do not send your child to school when they are sick.
When your child must be absent for any reason, please call the office at 858-988-2200 ext. 1 by 9:00 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. You can also email Renee Erickson at rerickson@sandi.net
Any child arriving after 7:50 a.m. must stop in the office and pick up a tardy slip. This is disruptive to your child and the entire class. Let's set good habits early in the school year to arrive on time. Silver Gate had the highest attendance in the Point Loma Cluster last year! Let’s keep up the good work!
