Dear Sherwood Families,

We hope you are all enjoying the beautiful summer weather. The start of the school year is rapidly approaching, and we get more excited with each passing day! We are thrilled to share that our school building will be thoroughly cleaned this weekend and will be ready to welcome students back for an exciting new year. This week's newsletter contains information in preparation for the start of the school year. Please be sure to review these items for your reference.

We would like to thank the incredible Sherwood PTO for hosting a wonderful Kindergarten Ice Cream Social this evening. It was great to see so many soon-to-be pandas getting to know one another!

With the start of the school year a few weeks away, we want to remind you that this year we are excited to be introducing a new before-school and after-school provider, AlphaBEST.

You are invited to join us for a virtual meeting with a representative from AlphaBEST that will be held on Tuesday, August 13 at 12:30 p.m. Get answers to your most pressing questions about the program. A Zoom link will be sent to those who RSVP as the meeting date approaches.

• Who: Any K-5 parents/guardians with questions about AlphaBEST

• Where: Zoom (link will be provided at a later date)

• Why: To learn more about our new before-school and after-school provider

We will also record the meeting and share it with all K-5 families.

Please also note that AlphaBEST will be offering full-day care on August 19, August 20 and August 21, prior to the first day of school. Registration for this three-day program opens on Friday, July 26.

More information about AlphaBEST will be shared by the district and your school over the next few weeks in back-to-school communications. If you have any immediate questions, please visit our website or contact Dr. Holly Colin, assistant superintendent for student services, at hcolin@nssd112.org.

This year, the kindergarten bus trial run will be held on Wednesday, August 14. Your bus driver will pick up your student(s) and a family member to go along for the ride at the assigned stop and times stated in the attached letter. The bus driver will run the entire route to the school’s loading/unloading zone and park for 10 minutes. Please do not exit the bus once you arrive at the school! When the bus is parked, please take this time to ask any questions regarding bus rules. The bus then will proceed to return everybody home to their bus stops.

You should also receive a letter in the mail regarding this optional opportunity sometime next week!

For families eligible to receive bus or van service, letters containing bus information will be sent to parents on August 8th and 9th.

Come say hello to your student's teacher and the amazing Sherwood staff on Wednesday, August 21st from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Additionally, families who purchased their own school supplies will be able to drop them off during our Back to School Bash.

If you purchased school supplies through School Toolbox this spring, they will be delivered directly to your student's classroom before the first day of school.

We are excited to share that finalized classroom assignments will be shared with families on Friday, August 9th. Each family will receive an electronic communication around noon indicating your student's classroom assignment for the year.

Thank you to our teachers and staff put a tremendous amount of energy into creating the best balance for each room. We feel confident that every classroom will be successful. Thank you!

Registration for the 2024-2025 school year at North Shore School District 112 is open! Please note that all students need to be registered for the new school year.

All Returning Students

This applies to all current students who will be returning to the district in 2024-2025. To complete the process, please log into the Parent Portal. Once logged in, select "More" from the left menu and then click on "Registration."

New Students (Including Kindergarten)

This applies to all new students, including kindergarteners who have been pre-registered. Begin the process for your new student.
