D11 GTA at North MS

The D11 GTA follows the Talent Development Model of Gifted Education which recognizes students have specific strengths in specific academic and talent areas.

Specialized scheduling affords students the opportunity to participate in up to six advanced classes at different levels of acceleration. The research-based approach allows students' needs to be met individually.

The Gifted Talented Academy is hosted by:

• Jenkins Middle School
• North Middle School

The District 11 Gifted Talented Academy strategically supports academic strengths in a student's area of interest. The equity-based Gifted and Talented Academy (GTA) at North Middle School and Jenkins Middle School looks at a body of evidence for entry into the program, ensuring the GTA represents the demographics at each school.

Selection Criteria include:

• standardized test scores above the 85th percentile
• a student's portfolio indicating they would benefit from this program
• focus on social-emotional well-being and development
• working as a team of teachers, parents and students for a supportive learning environment in pursuit of success

GTA Application Process

Complete the appropriate GTA application by the due date.

• Applications open December 1 for Grades 6-8 apply by February 15th

Obtain a teacher recommendation from a teacher who knows your student well.

• Share the Gifted Talented Academy (GTA) Teacher Recommendation Form so they may complete an online recommendation.

If you are applying from outside School District 11, provide formal identification paperwork and/or most recent advanced learning plan and relevant test scores to gt@d11.org, Gifted Programs Specialist.
