Boys State and Girls State
Boys and Girls State
Boys State and Girls State are programs of the American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary. These programs are available to any high school student that has completed their 11—junior year and have at least 1 semester of their senior year left. There is no charge to the delegate, though you will be responsible to do the registration and such. A large number of scholarships are also available through these programs.
The program is one week long, in June, and the focus is on teaching how our Constitutional Republic government works, City, County, State, and if chosen Federal. During the week, you will run for political office, assist others in their campaigns, and if successful, learn the duties of those offices. Other fields you may check out are law, attorney, the court system, mock trials, law enforcement with State Troopers, media reporting with videotaping, as well as social media reporting and IT WILL challenge you.
ARE YOU UP TO IT??!!!
Talk to your counselor, or contact me. Your counselor has my contact information, and I will gladly meet with you and your parents or guardians and explain the program in more detail. A Google search will give you a large amount of info also.
