College and Career Decision Day Celebrations
On Wednesday, over 200 seniors gathered with staff and administrators to celebrate the success of their high school graduation (scheduled in a few weeks) and to share their next steps after GCIT. With the walls of the 400 cafeteria adorned with the senior pictures, their program while at GCIT, and their plans after they graduate, it was a festive atmosphere! Seniors and staff wore their college shirts or their vocational trades gear while socializing with their classmates over cake and music. We would like to thank all the speakers for sharing their experiences and advice with the seniors:
Superintendent: Mike Dicken
GCIT Alumni: Tom Hill and Olivia Hardy
Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters: David Iannucci
Rowan College of South Jersey: John Westcoat
The class of 2024 enjoyed reuniting with each other, as many are not in the building every day because they are either at school-to-work or take classes in the college. It was a fun event and many of the seniors present extended thanks to the committee for planning this event in their honor.
I would like to thank the members of the College and Career Decision Day Committee:
Committee Chair - Dave White - for keeping us organized and structured. This allowed us to plan the celebration effortlessly and efficiently!
Zachary Bates and Nikki Jacob - for designing and creating the student posters with their decisions. Zach also printed the posters, created the electronic program, and got GCIT alumni, Olivia Hardy (Broadway star) to address our seniors.
Steve White - for crafting and creating the wooden "Decision Day 2024" and "Decision Made" signs. Also for contacting the Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters to get a vocational trades speaker (David Iannucci) to inspire our seniors.
Olga Perez - for creating the agenda and program for the celebration and arranging for a current GCIT teacher and GCIT alumni (Tom Hill) to address the seniors.
Rebecca Snodgrass - for ensuring that the facilities needs for the event were arranged and delivered in a timely manner.
Joe Jacob in SBYS - for providing the snacks for the event.
There were a few other people who assisted either in the planning phase or during the event that I would like to sincerely thank: Christine Datz, Chef Oberfrank, Maria Bazurto, Christina Simmerman, Jen Meyers, Fred McCoy, the guidance counselors, and all the administrators.
All of you contributed a part in making this event a success and our seniors were very appreciative and applauded the organizers. We are thinking that this will be an annual GCIT tradition! Congratulations Class of 2024!

Create Your Own Donut
The Baking and Pastry Arts Sophomore class has a "Create Your Own Donut" project each year at the end of the donut unit. Before actually making their donut, they must present their idea to the class by doing a PowerPoint presentation. They must decide on the type of donut (yeast or cake, ring or filled), include a sketch of their prototype, who their target consumer is, and where they would sell their special donut (big commercial chain or a hometown small business). They must come up with a slogan as well as a sales and pricing. This year they knocked it out of the park from rolled fondant topped superhero donut, crème brûlée, Tres leches, Simpson, and piña colada donuts to name a few.

GCIT Visits The Weitzman National Museum of Jewish History
GCIT students from across grades and Academies visited the Weitzman National Museum of Jewish History in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month. On a guided tour, we explored four floors of history and Jewish American stories including journeys and promises regarding immigration to the United Stated from the 1800s through the 1940s. We also explored the Civil Rights Movement, learning about figures such as Gloria Steinem and Betty Freidan. Thank you to the Weitzman staff, our bus driver Debbie, and Ms. Megara for helping to make this trip possible!
