Springing Into the Final Quarter!
Hello, Sunrise Middle School Community -
It's hard to believe that we are already in the last few months of the school year! What has the SRMS PTO been up to over the last month?
- At the Open House, we enjoyed meeting many new families who will be joining Sunrise in the fall. We appreciate everyone who stopped by our table to learn about the PTO! Please fill out this form if you are interested in serving on the 2025 - 2026 board or would like to sign up for other volunteer and committee opportunities.
- For staff appreciation, with the help of our all-star families, we provided a spring training-themed lunch for our MVP staff, which included hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzels, popcorn, chips, frozen sweet treats, and more. Special thanks to the Blanco, Brooks, Pearson, and Rock families for donating luncheon items and/or helping with cleanup and setup. - The PTO has been continuing to reach out to businesses for donations to our second annual auction fundraiser, which will take place April 21 - 28. You'll have the chance to win many fantastic items, such as sporting events tickets, theatre and comedy shows, wine tasting, crafting, dining, outdoor recreation, fun school experiences, and more! Funds raised from the auction will be used to support the Sunrise staff and students, including teacher grants, educational enrichments, classroom/program/club support, and staff appreciation. - We are excitedly planning for next school year! The latest PTO meeting minutes can be found here.
During our most recent dine-out fundraiser, we raised $118.84 for SRMS Mandarin at Panda Express. Thanks so much for your support of Sunrise's amazing programs, and we look forward to seeing you at the March Orchestra and D&D/Chess Club dine-outs.

What is a Dine-Out Fundraiser?
These fundraisers allow all of us to win! Companies give portions of the sales that are generated during one of our fundraisers to a specific program, club, or event at Sunrise Middle School... and there's one night where we don't have to think of what to cook or have any dishes to do! See below for the upcoming dine-out fundraisers and what programs at SRMS they are supporting. Thank you!
Peter Piper Pizza - Orchestra
SRMS Orchestra is hosting a dine-out fundraiser on Wednesday, 3/5/25 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Peter Piper Pizza. Orchestra will receive 15% back of all food, beverage, and Funpass sales. Please be sure to show the paper/digital flyer or for online/app orders, enter the promo code FRESHDOUGH. Peter Piper Pizza is located at 245 E. Bell Rd., # 55, Phoenix. We will see you there!
Panera Bread - D&D/Chess Club
SRMS D&D/Chess Club is hosting a dine-out fundraiser on Wednesday, 3/26/25 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Panera Bread. D&D/Chess will receive 25% back of net sales. Please be sure to show the paper/digital flyer or for online/app orders, enter the code FUND4U. Panera Bread is located at 4512 E. Cactus Rd., Phoenix. We will see you there!
United Parent Council (UPC) Updates
What is the United Parent Council? The UPC consists of volunteers from across PVSchools working together to enhance the educational experience for all students. UPC:
- Supports PV Schools’ parent group organizations and school communities.
- Facilitates communication and information between families and the District.
- Celebrates the accomplishments of the schools, teachers, principals, staff, and students in PV.
- Collaborates with various organizations to provide valuable information and resources on relevant topics.
Here is the Snapshot from the February 19, 2025 UPC General Meeting and some recent updates:
- Next UPC GENERAL MEETING is Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 9 a.m. Program will start at 10 a.m. Meetings and parent programs are open to all PVSchools parents and members of the community and can be attended in person or on Zoom. The Zoom registration link will be available on the UPC Facebook page prior to the meeting.
- Teacher and Staff Appreciation nomination is open. Nominations must be in by March 7, 2025 at 10 p.m. Forms and more information can be found HERE.
- NEW COMMITTEE: Digital Learning and Emerging Technologies. This committee will work to provide resources for parents regarding PVUSD technology and digital learning services. Some areas of involvement will be Artificial Intelligence, Digital Citizenship, Data Governance and Technology Equipment. Reach out to technology@pvusd.org for more information.
- STEAMposium: March 1, 2025 from 9-2 at Shadow Mountain High School. More information can be found HERE.
- HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT shared an overview and updates to their curriculum, presented the new adaptive curriculum developed this year, and provided a timeline for when information will go out. REMINDER: Parents MUST OPT-IN each year for their student to remain with their class for the presentations. Watch for permission slips to be sent out March 19, 2025. Permission slips are due April 2, 2025. All curriculum topics and videos can be viewed in advance. Contact rhayward@pvschools.net with any questions.
- UPCOMING GIFTED PROGRAMMING: Join Karen Brown, Director of PV Gifted Education, for an evening Parent Informational Presentation. Engage in a dynamic conversation with a panel of PV Gifted Specialists focused on strategies to support the gifted child. March 25, 2025 at 6 p.m. The program can be attended in person or on Zoom. - The next PVUSD Governing Board Meeting is March 6, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. Members of the public are invited to attend in person or view the livestream at https://www.youtube.com/@PVSchools. A recording of the February 20, 2025 Governing Board Meeting can be accessed at that same link. Parents can e-mail the Board or submit a Public Comment in advance of the next meeting through the links on the District's website at: https://www.pvschools.net/our-district/governing-board.
