KEY NEWS FOR EXPLORER FAMILIES
Each day this week has been filled with all sorts of creativity as the students and staff enjoyed Piggy Palooza! Fancy Friday for Picture Day was a fun way to end the week. The PTA will share the final totals of funds raised next week. PTA has worked very hard to put together the Family Fun Night tonight, it starts at 6:00 pm with entrance in the gym hallway door. They were able to make some tweaks so the event can still go on even with the variable weather forecast. The Family Fun Night is for current Northwood students and families only; all students do need to be with an adult for the event.
Our fantastic morning traffic officer, Officer Ellis, has had to be away due to some shortages in other areas. He let us know that he’s planning to return to Northwood on Monday, and we’re thrilled to have him back! Fingers are crossed that stays the plan.
Enjoy your family time this weekend. Time outdoors enjoying the fall-ish weather balanced with time indoors reading is a recipe for a perfect weekend.
With gratitude,
Heather Rucker
Principal
MS. SHIRLEY & MRS. GARDELLA'S EXPLORERS
Our amazing occupational therapist, Ms. Corich, helps our AU Support students get their days started off on the right foot through their daily morning stretch! Our older students have been such great role models for our younger students by modeling the expectations and poses for our new-to-Northwood students. Our morning stretch helps students get their minds and bodies ready for a day full of learning!
SEPTEMBER IS ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH
We want to highlight positive attendance outcomes:
- Students who attend school regularly feel more connected to our community and are engaged in their learning.
- School attendance improves reading proficiency!
- On-time, regular school attendance builds life-long work habits that promote success!
If you have outside circumstances impacting your child’s attendance and would like support, please reach out to our School Counselor, Jennifer Weeks at 470-254-6390.
STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT & DISCIPLINE HANDBOOK: PLEASE REVIEW & SIGN OFF

CAFETERIA NEWS
FARM FRESH APPLES AT BREAKFAST AND LUNCH ALL SEPTEMBER
Mark your calendars and get ready to eat farm fresh apples in the café the entire month of September. These apples have been grown and harvested fresh by the Southeast’s very own farmers. Did you know that an apple’s volume is made up of 25% air? That’s why apples float! Be sure to check out the farm fresh apples at breakfast and lunch this September!
FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE MEAL BENEFITS
To continue free or reduced-price meal benefits for students each household must complete a new application every year. Free and Reduced Meal Benefits will end on September 18, 2024, if the household has not reapplied for SY 2024-2025. If there is an interruption in benefits or the household does not reapply, the household is responsible for payment of meals until the Free and Reduced application is approved.
To help assure continuation of benefits, the household must complete an online application by September 17, 2024, at www.fulton.coollunchapp.com; or have a paper application turned in to the school cafeteria manager before September 16, 2024. Be sure to list all the students in the household on the application. Keep in mind, the application may take up to 10-days to process. If you have any questions, please call the Fulton County School Nutrition Program - Meal Eligibility Desk at 470-254-2220.
THE MORE YOU KNOW: GENERAL AND MEAL ACCOUNTS
When it comes to loading money onto your child's account, whether through the My Payments Plus Website or in person, there is a difference between the two accounts. Money loaded onto the Meal Account can only be used for Meals, while money onto the General Account can be used for Meals, Snacks, Ice Cream, and Ala Carte Items. So, if you only want your child to be able to purchase meals and nothing else, keep all funds on the Meal Account. Otherwise, you can put money on both, or put it all on the General Account.
