14th Street School Field Notes

Students got a "taste" of this month's elections by voting for their favorite Oreo cookie--Birthday Cake or Double Stuf--at a booth created for this purpose. Double Stuf defeated Birthday Cake by a vote of 75 to 58 and the winning cookie was served at lunch on November 6. A "sweet" thank you to Mrs. Dudley and Mrs. Smith for organizing this opportunity for students to experience democracy in action!

Every Friday we randomly select a prize winner (one per class) from among the students who received a Ram award that week for being a responsible worker, acting respectfully, having a mighty positive attitude, and/or staying safe. Selected students get to choose a small toy, bring in an item for Show and Tell, read to a class, help Mr. Deane, eat lunch with a friend, or (my personal favorite) eat lunch with me.

• If you haven't already completed the School Climate Survey for parents/guardians, we would greatly appreciate your doing so. The data from this anonymous survey is specific to Fourteenth Street School so will be very useful in helping us to improve our programs and practices. Access to the survey will close on November 30; please click here to fill it out.
• We're very excited for Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 25 and 26. These conferences offer a unique opportunity for in-depth conversations about your student's progress. Because we believe so strongly in the importance of home-school partnerships, we are setting as our goal 100% parent/guardian participation. If the allotted dates/times don't work with your schedule, please contact your student's teacher to discuss other options.

• Clynk bags are available in the office. All you need to do is grab a bag and once it is full, take it to any Clynk drop-off location, scan the tag on the front of the bag, and deposit the bag inside the hut. Clynk will take care of the rest!
• In September, PTO began our annual appeal for donations with a letter that went home in folders. If you happened to miss the paper, please find more information here. We truly appreciate your support in our efforts to provide programming to bring our community together, enrich students’ and families’ lives, and support our teachers and staff!
