Major Traffic Concerns
We are writing to address a serious and urgent matter concerning the safety of our students and the community surrounding our school . Recently, an alarming incident occurred where one child was struck by a vehicle, and another was nearly hit. This event has highlighted the critical need for immediate action and heightened awareness regarding driving behavior in and around our school area. As parents and guardians, we share a collective responsibility to ensure the safety of all children during drop-off and pick-up times. We cannot stress enough the importance of adhering to traffic laws and school policies designed to protect our students.
BE AWARE OF STUDENTS AND THESE REMINDERS:
1. Observe Speed Limits: The speed limit around our school is clearly posted. Please adhere to this limit at all times, especially during peak hours when children are entering and exiting the school.
2. Follow Designated Traffic Patterns: Please use designated drop-off and pick-up zones. Ensure you are not double-parking or blocking crosswalks, as these actions create hazardous situations for our children.
3. Stay Alert: Always be vigilant and watch for pedestrians, particularly children who may be difficult to see. Our students may not always be aware of their surroundings, and it is our duty to protect them.
4. No Cell Phones: Distracted driving is a significant risk. Please refrain from using your cell phone or any other distractions while driving in and around the school zone.
5. Encourage Safe Walking Practices: If your child walks to school, please remind them to use crosswalks, look both ways before crossing the street, and stay alert for vehicles. We urge you to take this message seriously.
6. Neighbor Driveways: DO NOT drop off, pick up, or park in our neighbors driveways.
The safety of our children is our utmost priority, and we must work together to create a secure environment for them. We ask that you talk with your children about these safety practices and lead by example. We appreciate your immediate attention to this matter and your cooperation in making our school a safer place for everyone. Together, we can ensure that our children arrive at school and return home safely. Thank you for your understanding and commitment to our school community.

🍂 Counselor's Corner 🍂
In November and December we focus on thankfulness and gratitude, celebrating the many things we have to be thankful for and acting on that thankfulness by showing our gratitude in action.
The counseling department (i.e., myself, the counselor) is thankful to the parents, community members, teachers, staff and students who recently volunteered their time on Anza's inaugural School Counseling Department's Advisory Council meeting. While the presentation and discussion revolved around how counseling is implemented at Anza, the members were so gracious to remind me that we are here for each other and graciously asked for ways to help.
In terms of materials, the Green Team would benefit from donations of potting soil, kid-safe rakes, shovels, and water meters, and/or plant stakes (the kind that can be written on and withstand the weather). A bigger ask is for a gently used, sturdy outdoor storage closet for gardening materials that is lockable (we will be using a TUSD-issued padlock). In addition, the Green Team is considering fundraising efforts to support possible fields trips and the purchase of t-shirts - so if you know if any businesses or individuals aligned with our purpose, that is to protect the environment and have fun too, please share by emailing me at gutierrez.gloria@tusd.org. We have a student treasurer who is tracking all of our donations, inventory, and donors, so PLEASE share the estimated value of what is donated and your name.
If your student is on the Green Team (only interested members in 3rd-4th-5th are eligible), they have been added as a member to the Green Team class roster on Schoology. Please check for the permission slip and let me know if you have questions.
