SHS Musical: A huge congratulations to our cast and crew of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" for putting on a spectacular spring musical for our school and community to enjoy. We even made the news, see article here for a review of the production: https://www.frontenacnews.ca/south-frontenac-news/item/17267-shs-presents-you-re-a-good-man-charlie-brown
Thank you to everyone who came to see the musical, and support the Arts at SHS. And a big thank you to Director, Kristen Martin, for a great production.
Syd's Cafe: We wrapped up another great Syd's Cafe on May 23rd with many students showcasing their talents to the greater community.
Student Council: Thank you to Student Council for organizing a fun May carnival for students to enjoy, along with a spirit week.
Recreational Leadership: Our recreational leadership class has been busy this semester. Students helped to organize OFSAA Volleyball, the SHS Blood Donation Clinic, assisted with organization of EOSSAA Volleyball Coaching Clinic, ran games in the gym for May Carnival, hosted the Perth Road Public School Track and Field Meet, organized the May Pep Rally, and will finish the semester by organizing the Athletic Banquet on June 11th starting at 4:00pm.
Mental Health Week: We recognized mental health week through the planning and organization of our Jack.Org Student Leadership group (Bella, Jorja, and Lhea). Thank you for your efforts to improve student wellness, connection to peers, and building community. Students were able to take part in interactive presentations, free smoothie bowls, prizes, and contributed to a school-wide banner. Their efforts led to us winning a school-wide pizza party and Silver designation as an OPHEA Healthy School. Congrats!
Athletics: Thank you to our coaches for a great spring season and to our athletes for their dedication. Congrats to all our graduating athletes, we thank you for your commitment to the SHS Athletic program over the years. Several teams are still wrapping up their seasons. We have 26 students who qualified for East Regionals and19 who are moving onto OFSAA. A reminder that results and games can be found at kassaa.ca, we always welcome fans at our games to cheer on our Golden Eagles! Go Eagles Go!

and Vann Thomas placed 8th in Plumbing. Congrats to these students on their accomplishments!
OSSLT Results:
We had our second write of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test for some of our grade 10 students. Individual results will be communicated beginning this week with students and parent/guardians.
Device Return:
Grade 9 and 10 students are required to bring back their device prior to the end of the school year. We need to collect devices to upgrade software and then will determine roll-out plan in the fall. Devices can be returned to the library or the main office.

School Advisory Council
Last Meeting June 5 at 6:30 PM in the School Library
Our SAC Chair for the 2023-2024 School Year is Vanessa Wood. Our SAC is made up of parents/guardians that gather once a month to collaborate, participate and contribute to the education of students in our school. New members are always welcome to join throughout the year. See our minutes from our last meeting below. If you would like to attend virtually, please email slatem@limestone.on.ca for a link to the meeting.
Extended Absence Form
The parent/guardian of the pupil or the pupil (if the pupil is an adult) seeking an extended absence under Subsection 23(3) of Regulation 293 of the Education Act must submit a request through this form, stating the reasons for the request and specifying the length of absence. The time frame must be explicitly stated and must be less than 15 days. Extended absences may negatively impact on a students’ academic achievement. Extended absences may be granted for vacations, family obligations or based on the principal’s discretion in consultation with the school supervisor.
Park and Produce
To ensure students are completing required summative assessment tasks, students may be referred to Administration and asked to attend a "Park and Produce" session to complete missing work. Park and Produce is every other week with occasional lunchtimes added in as needed. Referrals come by the end of lunch the day before, with phone calls and/or emails going out that afternoon/evening. Reminders of the dates for Park and Produce are usually the Monday the week of if not the Friday before (Park and Produce days are usually Thursdays but vary due to holidays and PA days). Thank you in advance for your support of this accountability effort to keep students on track with their learning cycle while creating responsible study habits.
Our goal is to ensure evidence is submitted in order for a credit to be granted and students to be successful in their courses. According to our board policy, "Final grades can only be determined when all summative assessment tasks have been submitted; the credit will not be granted until such evidence is submitted; the code “I”’ will be used in grades 9 and 10 and the code “25” will be used in grades 11 and 12". SafeArrival Updated Reasons
All parents/guardians are asked to report their student’s absence regardless of the reason, including during bus cancellations. Often, bused students find alternative ways to school and we want to ensure we know the whereabouts of every student to ensure their safety and well-being. Knowing who is supposed to be at school will allow school office staff to best ensure all students are accounted for. Students are asked to ensure they report to their first period class for attendance.
The SafeArrival reporting tool has two options regarding transportation:
• Inclement Weather (all transportation types and walkers) for any inclement weather days when your student will not be attending school.
• Transportation (not weather-related) for any non-weather-related transportation reason when your student will not be attending school (e.g., when a bus is cancelled due to a driver shortage).
We recognize this is a change in practice but one we are making to ensure student safety and well-being. Thank you for your support and understanding.
If your student is marked absent and the absence hasn’t been reported in advance, the SafeArrival system will attempt to reach the student’s priority contact by telephone to confirm the absence. If you receive a call regarding your student’s absence, you can enter the reason for the absence during this call. If the system is unable to reach the designated contacts, school office staff will follow-up.
