THIS WEEK IS TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Join us in celebrating the heart of Sacred Heart — our incredible teachers! This week is a special time to pray for them, thank them, and show your appreciation for all they do.
Our teachers do far more than teach—they inspire, guide, listen, and love. Whether it’s staying late to help a struggling student, creating fun and engaging lessons, or offering a kind word at just the right time, they truly go above and beyond every day.
Take a moment this week to say thank you, send a note, or offer a prayer for these amazing educators who give so much of themselves to help our children grow in faith, wisdom, and love.
Let’s shower our teachers with the appreciation they so richly deserve!
Dear SHOJ Families:
To ensure the safety of our students and staff as well as to meet State of Ohio guidelines Sacred Heart conducts building safety inspections and checks, monthly fire drills, periodic lockdowns and an annual Emergency Management Test.
This year we will conduct the third in a series of EMT Drills with the purpose of ensuring that our safety procedures are up to date. Conducting drills such as this also allows us to make decisions on improvements to our current procedures.
On Thursday, May 8th at 1:30pm we will conduct a drill that will result in a PRACTICE EVACUATION to our reunification location, Sacred Heart Church. Upon arriving at the church, the staff and students will be secured, we will review our procedures and return to the school.
Parents will receive a series of notifications. It is important you make yourself aware of the notifications.
Notification # 1: via text and email parents will receive a notice that there has been a need to evacuate the school and reunification information will sent shortly. THIS IS A PRACTICE DRILL ONLY. WE WILL NOT BE CONDUCTING A REUNIFICATION DURING THIS DRILL, ONLY TESTING COMMUNICATIONS INDICATING THIS.
Notification # 2: via test and email, evacuation/reunification drill complete and students have returned to the school and the drill is complete.
Be aware that we may make some changes to these alerts as needed. Again, THERE WILL BE NO REUNIFICATION AT THE CHURCH FOR THIS DRILL. We are only simulating an evacuation and testing notification systems as part of that simulation.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and thank you in advance for your help in making this a smooth and successful drill.
In Christ,
Mr. Czaplicki

YOU ARE INVITED
SHS PARENTS ARE INVITED TO A SPECIAL PRESENTATION
The STVM Parents’ Club is proud to be bringing the Do It for James Foundation back to STVM this year on Tuesday, April 29. Parents/Guardians from STVM and local Catholic grade schools, are invited to the parent session from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the STVM theater. STVM is inviting all local catholic school parents/guardians to attend so that as many parents as possible can hear this important and impactful presentation. The Do It For James Foundation was created by Tim and Tamia Woods of Streetsboro in honor of their son James, who died by suicide at age 17 after being cyberbullied. Tim and Tamia and the Do It for James Foundation (www.letsdifj.org) have received local, statewide and national accolades for their activism on sextortion, including from the F.B.I, USA Today, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tim and Tamia are powerful presenters, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of this amazing opportunity to hear them speak.
Shorts May Be Worn
Beginning Monday, April 7th students may wear uniform shorts (black for gym, blue or khaki for regular uniform days) and may wear appropriate length and loose fit shorts on grub days. Shorts of any kind may not be worn on Mass or Church days (stations, rosary etc). Appropriate length for any shorts is defined as being no shorter than 5 inches above the knee.
New Ohio Resources for Students
Effective April 9, Ohio law requires each city, local, and exempted village school district, chartered nonpublic school, community school, STEM school, and college-preparatory boarding school serving students in any grade 9 through 12 to include the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline telephone number on all of the following, if provided or used by the school:
- Student identification cards issued after April 9;
- Planners issued to students after April 9; and
- Any electronic portal administered by the district or school that may be accessed by students.
The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services provides resources that may help schools with updating materials, including the 988 Toolkit and Materials Generator.
While the law does not pertain directly to our Catholic Elementary schools, the Diocese is encouraging schools to make this information available to all students and families.
The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline provides 24/7, free, and confidential support to Ohioans in a mental health crisis. Ohioans can call or text “988” to reach a trained specialist for help and support. Contact 988ohio@mha.ohio.gov for questions about the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
We have added the below flyer to our parent resource tab on our website.

Donate to the Angel Scholarship
The Angel Scholarship Fund
Through the Ohio Catholic Community Foundation’s Angel Scholarship, you can redirect a portion of your state tax liability to support tuition assistance for our students. This means that while you make a donation now, you can claim the amount as a dollar-for-dollar tax credit when filing your state taxes. It’s a wonderful way to give without the extra financial burden. Don't forget, any tax paying Ohioans can make a donation so spread the word to family and friends! For more information or questions about this program, please reach out to Mr. Jeff Flaherty at the parish office.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. Together, we can continue to strengthen our school family and support our mission.
