MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Good Afternoon CCS Caregivers and Charlotte Residents,
Thank you to all who were able to join us for the open house Tuesday evening. We were impressed by the student ambassadors leading their caregivers around, showing and telling about their learning community. The soccer games and track meet were a bonus so staff could cheer on their students and the broader community could see opportunities CCS youth participate in. We also want to share a special shout-out to the PTO and the cookie donations they organized and many parents delivered. The sweets were nice and held folks over until dinner or may have become dinner!
We also want to share some challenges we have faced this year and expect to continue facing throughout this year. Since the summer, we have had several positions that have been posted with no applicants who have come forward; those positions include teacher substitutes, recess supervisors, paraeducators, and specialists. You can find out more about substituting here and the other openings here; type in “Charlotte” into the “Search Jobs” box to narrow it down to CCS’ needs.
Already short 4 to 5 full-time staff, sickness has traveled through our faculty recently, and it’s been a balancing act to keep the learning going. Staff from all around the building have slid in to cover classes or lend a hand during lunch and recess duties. If anyone is interested in becoming a substitute teacher, we have a tremendous need. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend exploring Vermont’s fall treasures.
Sincerely,
Jen and Tim

LOST AND FOUND IS OVERFLOWING
Yes, after only 5 weeks our lost and found rack in the front lobby is overflowing.
With the cool mornings and the warm afternoons, there are so many sweaters, hoodies, and sweatshirts that have already made there way to the rack. The ever present lost water bottles also.
Please have your child(ren) check the lost and found for their missing items. We hate to give away people's clothes/water bottles/lunch boxes but we have a limited amount of space to store it. IT WILL BE DONATED OVER THE OCT 10TH AND 11TH BREAK.
Also, if you are driving by or come to pick up your child(ren) from CCS between the office hours of 7:30 and 4:00, please feel free to come into the lobby to check for your family's missing items.
Charlotte Central School is looking for 4th-8th graders to participate in our FIRST LEGO League Challenge!
FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children in grades 4-8 through fun, exciting hands-on learning. FIRST LEGO League participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together. In FIRST LEGO League, students engage in hands-on STEM experiences, building confidence, growing their knowledge, and developing habits of learning.
Mr. Holcomb and Steve Flint will be coaching FIRST LEGO League starting on October 1st. The team will meet and practice on some Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 until 4:30, with the season culminating in a qualifying competition on December 8th in Shelburne and a statewide competition on Saturday, January 18, 2025, in Essex!
We are only allowed 20 spots so please complete this Google Form, as soon as possible! We understand many students are involved in Fall Sports and will allow flexibility until that season wraps up.
SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH
Dear CVSD Community,
Earlier this year, the CVSD school board announced the hiring of Adam Bunting as interim superintendent of our district for this school year. At the same time, we announced that we would conduct a thorough search for a permanent superintendent during the 2024-25 school year that included obtaining community input.
The board is pleased to announce that we have begun the process of identifying the next permanent superintendent of our district and extend an invitation to the community to get involved in the process. The search will be facilitated by CVSD’s Director of Human Resources (HR). Information about how to get involved is included on our website, https://www.cvsdvt.org/. Scroll down to the headline for the Superintendent Search.
Throughout the fall and early winter. we will provide the community with periodic updates on our progress. Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
Sincerely,
Meghan Metzler, Chair, CVSD School Board
Keith Roberts, Chair, CVSD HR Committee
