The African American Renaissance 1920 - 2022
The Harlem Renaissance was an intellectual and cultural revival of African American music, dance, art, fashion, literature, theater, politics and scholarship centered in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, spanning the 1920s and 1930s. To commemorate the impact that continues today, a video will be shared at the end of the month with all parents. Teachers will provide more information regarding the recording since each grade level is assigned a particular talent.

Hearing Screening
Hearing screening will be conducted Monday for scholars. During this time, if any additional testing is needed, parents will be notified of the result. This is only a preliminary for early detection.

Attire: Scholars are allowed to wear regular dress attire.
Valentine Day at School
Valentine is a day to share love with family and friends. The day is also special at school since many friendships are developed and nurtured daily. On February 14th, scholars will be allowed to bring cards and candy tokens to share with classmates. Teachers will share any additional information regarding their particular exchange. Sorry parents, we will not have Valentine's Day parties. Only cards and individually wrapped candies are allowed.
Reading Incentive Celebration-February 17th
Reading and Improving Literacy is very important to establish a strong base in education. Here are a few suggestions that will help you support your child’s literacy: Read to your child every day Buy books as presents Ensure your child sees you reading Encourage your child to keep a diary or journal when they go on holidays Encourage your child to write letters, postcards, lists and messages. Parents play a very important role beyond the hours of classroom instruction that children receive each day. Being a role model and encouraging your child to read will help support and build your child’s confidence in their reading and writing ability
