Valley View Elementary's Jennifer Cahill Named Local 710 Teacher of the Year
This week, Local 710 President, Daniel Honigs, went to Valley View to tell Jennifer she is the 2025 Teacher of the Year and celebrated with many of her VV coworkers before school started! The Local 710 will be hosting a reception for her later this month!
Congratulations Jennifer!
Hylander Speech Team Places 3rd in Sections and Sends Four Students to State!
Four CHHS students are headed to the MSHSL Class AA State Speech Tournament!
The Hylander Speech Team competed in the Section 4AA Speech Tournament and placed 3rd overall as a team! Sophomore Hanan Mohamoud (Creative Catagory), Junior Ray Muhm (Extemporaneous Reading Catagory), Junior Daphne Kleinschmit (Drama Catagory) and Senior Taymoi Epps (Poetry Catagory) are all headed to the State Speech Tournament on April 26th!
Multiple other team members medaled as well!
- Alice Sabatke placed 5th in Creative
- Hanan Mohamoud placed 2nd in Creative (qualified for State)
- Daphne Kleinschmit placed 1st in Drama (qualified for State)
- Lillian Zeimet placed 6th in Extemporaneous Reading
- Ray Muhm placed 3rd in Extemporaneous Reading (qualified for State)
- Masno Jama placed 5th in Great Speeches
- Leo Pham placed 4th in Humor
- Finn Knoke-Borris placed 4th in Informative Speaking
- Carolina Baldovinos Miranda placed 5th in Poetry
- Taymoi Epps placed 1st in Poetry (qualified for State)
Hylander Boys Volleyball Inaugural Season Celebration
Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with our Hylander Boys Volleyball Team for their inaugural season as a sport here at CHHS! We had a great turnout of students, families, fans, community members, school board members, district administrators, local dignitaries, CHPD officers and many more!
This season would not be possible without the funding and support of the Columbia Heights Police Department, the Columbia Heights VFW and the Columbia Heights Athletic Boosters. Thank you all for your continued partnership and support of not only our school district, but our students and their activitites!
Elementary Track & Field Day Shirts and Water Bottles
All three CHPS elementary schools are looking forward to having Track & Field Day in May. Each school is selling t-shirts and water bottles online. Shirts and water bottles will be delivered to your child's school!
Shirts are $9 and water bottles are $2!
Below is the link to the online stores. Please only order from the link for your child(ren)'s school. The last date to order is April 22nd.

Summer Adventure Club
There are still some spots left for Summer 2025 Adventure Club!!
Summer Adventure Club is for children entering Kindergarten through Fifth Grade in the Fall of 2025. Summer dates are June 16th-August 21st, Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. (closed on June 19 and June 30-July 4). AC is located in the CHPS Family Center.

Current Openings in Mini Adventures!
Mini Adventures is a four-star Parent Aware child care program for children ages 36 months to 5 years old. In Mini Adventures, your child will participate in a variety of activities, including mathematics, guided group time, literacy, dramatic play, music, games, outdoor play, arts & crafts, movement and more! Early Childhood Screening is required for all participants. Independent toileting is required for children before participating.
Hours, Dates, Locations & Fees:
- 6:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. weekdays, year-round at the CHPS Family Center (closed June 19 and June 30-July 4)
- Weekly program fee for 5 days a week = $323
- Weekly program fee for 4 days a week = $273
- Weekly program fee for 3 days a week = $215
- Weekly program fee for 2 days a week = $152
- Weekly program fee for 1 day a week = $77
- `Plus a $25 registration fee for new registrations only
- This fee includes breakfast, lunch and a snack. We accept County Child Care Assistance and Pathways I scholarships. Pathways II scholarships may be available for those who qualify.

Summer Youth Camp registration! We plan to have sports, strength training and theater opportunities for students in grades 6-12
Sports Physical for all Athletics
Every athlete participating in school-year sports must have a physical on file with the Activities Office. Student Athletes cannot register for the upcoming season without a sports physical on file. Sports physicals are valid for three years. 24-25 Sports Physical Form

Babysitting 101 Course Available this Summer!
This course is best suited for 10 to 13-year-olds interested in learning the current practices of caring for young children and how to manage their babysitting business. Students will learn safety and injury prevention, CPR, first aid basics, feeding and caring for infants and how to handle behavior problems. Students receive a reference book, handouts, babysitting bag and first aid kit.

City of Columbia Heights Recreation Opportunities!
Mini Tumblers and Mighty Tumblers (must complete mini tumblers)
- Tumblers will work to develop motor coordination, spatial awareness, flexibility, and self-confidence through elements of gymnastics and dance movements. Each week, instructors lead movement and creative games, across the floor exercises, tumbling, balance beam work, and more to practice and learn skills.
- Mini Tumblers Ages 3-5 (Beginners): Wednesdays, Mar 12-Apr 23 (No Apr 2) from 4:45-5:30pm. $36. Register here.
- Mighty Tumblers Ages 3-5 (Completed mini tumblers): Wednesdays, Mar 12-Apr 23 (No Apr 2) from 3:30-4:15pm. $36. Register here.
Poster Workshop for Teens
- Saturday, April 12, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
- Do you have a favorite quote or an idea you want to share through poster design? Join us at the library for a fun, hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to use slogans, symbols, and simple printmaking techniques to create a killer poster design. You’ll walk away with a finished piece and some copies of your design to share with the world. This is your chance to make your voice heard and explore how posters can make a big impact in public spaces. Ages 12+.
