Ranger Baseball Announces Educator of the Week
Each Week the Terry Baseball Program will showcase and spotlight a different educator that makes a positive impact on our program. The Educator of the Week is:
Head Football Coach Darnell Jackson
Terry French Teacher A Part of Ground-Breaking Group
This year, Lamar CISD's Talent Development team launched a new program called Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), which is for staff members with degrees from non-English speaking universities who want to become certified teachers in Lamar CISD. Nineteen employees have committed to attend the TOEFL exam review sessions offered through a partnership between the Departments of Multilingual Education and Talent Development, including Terry High School French Teacher, Mr. Papa Fall.
These sessions are designed to build capacity and prepare future educators to pass the TOEFL in October 2023 and prepare them to join our Lamar CISD-iTeach Alternative Teacher Certification Program in January 2024. Among the participants in this course are a nurse practitioner, a doctorate of legal studies, three teachers, two marketing majors, four business majors, an architect and a certified accountant. The goal is for them to add the title of Lamar CISD certified teacher to their list of credentials by next August. We are the only district in our area and one of only a few in Texas offering TOEFL to staff.
Understand that trust is an essential ingredient in building meaningful and lasting relationships, here at school and in your career success.

Leveling Classes Due to Class Size
Parents/Guardians,
Counselors have started the process of leveling courses due to class sizes. This is a normal process that occurs each fall to ensure students are placed in classrooms with appropriate teacher-to-student ratios when available.
This process will require student schedule changes based on the minimal schedule impact. For example, if a student's schedule does not allow them to move due to the limited offerings of courses needed to continue their graduation plan, their schedule may stay the same. However, if a student schedule change would not impact the course offerings and will only be a simple swapping of course/class periods, then this student would be selected for the difference.
In any case, changes after the first day of school are not ideal. However, they are necessary to ensure an appropriate learning environment for all scholars.
Schedule changes due to leveling are final through the semester.
Course Level Changes
Please see below for LCISD guidelines regarding level changes.
Course Level Changes: To be considered for a level change from a PAP, AP, Dual Credit or OnRamps course, the student must have made a sincere effort to succeed by attending tutorials, completing his/her work, completed available reassessment, conferenced with his/her teacher, and recognized that Dual/AP courses have a 1.3 multiplier, PAP courses have a 1.2 multiplier, and academic courses have a 1.1 multiplier.
A parent conference with the teacher is recommended before a level change.
Course level changes will be considered at the end of the 3rd week (PR1), at the end of the 1st six weeks (SW1), and at the end of the 1st semester with a completed campus drop form. Level changes for semester-only courses will be considered at the end of the 3rd week (PR1 or PR4) and at the end of the 1st six weeks (SW1 or SW4).
If students need a level change they should request a level change form from their teacher. Students can contact the counselors if they have questions.
Students Encouraged to Monitor Attendance in Skyward
Students,
Please ensure you are monitoring your attendance in Skyward Student Access each week to ensure you are receiving credit for your classes. Students with excessive tardies/absences may lose their ability to be exempt from classes and may lose credit for the course.
A Few Tips:
- Make sure you are raising your hand or speaking clearly when your teacher takes attendance each day.
- Check your Skyward Attendance Daily.
- Pick up an Attendance Correction form from the Attendance Office and have your teacher verify the proper attendance code for the period.
All students are encouraged to monitor their grades and attendance and advocate for themselves.
Lamar CISD Final Exam Exemptions Policy
On September 5, the Lamar CISD Board of Trustees approved some important changes to our EIAA Local policy, which provides guidance regarding our final exam exemptions. These updates will go into effect on Monday, September 11, 2023.
Effective September 11, 2023, the following adjustments will be made to our final exam policy for 7th – 12th grade students:
Absence Criteria for Exam Exemptions:
To qualify for an exemption from final exams, a student shall have no more than three absences without a note from a medical professional or up to five absences with a note from a medical professional for at least two of those absences. This change reinforces the importance of regular attendance while allowing flexibility for genuine medical reasons.
Attendance Review Committee (ARC):
Parents and students may request the campus ARC (as specified in FEC Local) to review cases of students with more than five total absences. The committee will assess whether the student has valid reasons to be considered eligible for exam exemptions. Decisions made by the ARC are final and may not be appealed. We encourage students and parents to utilize this process if they believe their circumstances warrant a review.
Absent on Exam Day:
If a student fails to be present and sign in on the day of the exam, they will be marked absent and required to take the assessment at a later date, determined by the campus administration. Failure to take the assessment will result in a grade of zero for the final/semester exam.
Important Note: Absences accrued prior to September 11, 2023, will NOT count against earning exemptions. However, any absences prior to September 11, 2023, may count against compulsory attendance requirements per board Policy FEA (Legal) and FEC (Legal).
These changes to our final exam policy reflect our commitment to maintaining a fair and equitable academic environment while emphasizing the importance of regular attendance and accountability. We believe that these adjustments will promote academic success and encourage responsible attendance habits among our students.
