TRECK to EXCELLENCE
Our TRECK Value this month is COURAGE
Courage Definition:
Doing what is right in the face of difficulty.
Strand for the Week of March 9:
Strand 3: Speaks up for what is right in a respectful manner
Elementary - Ms. Mary Tatum - ES Dean of Students
Hello Elementary Climbers,
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
I want you to take a moment to think about a time you asked for something or was told to do something by your parents. Maybe you did not receive the desired response or you simply did not see the value in what you were asked to do. In some instances, you may have been able to ask why or why not and in others you just unwillingly accepted the no or did what you were told. Many times we asked or tell scholars to do things without giving the why and we are not always receptive when asked why. This week I want us to focus on giving scholars the tools/language to respectfully disagree or respectfully question.

Strategies to connect with scholars
Spotlight: Fourth Grade Team
The fourth grade team and scholars were the talk of the elementary and middle school scholars. The anti-bullying posters created by the scholars and their teachers were lit , literally and figuratively. The scholars held those posters with so much pride, and the had every right to do so. THANK YOU fourth grade for your ENTHUSIASM!!!

Greetings Middle School,
Stomp Out Bullying Week was a success! Big thank you to you all for participating and showing enthusiasm and energy! I loved collaborating with elementary school and watching our teachers and scholars show class spirit. It is times like these that make me love what I do. This week’s challenge: encourage a scholar to do something courageous. Let me know what you did and which scholar(s) you chose. You will receive a raffle ticket. I will be doing a teacher raffle at Friday’s Assembly.

As we move closer to the Forward Exam, it is extremely important that we take time to address misconceptions that we find via assessments and exit tickets. Where do we find the time? Either in do nows the next day or immediate after the exit ticket. Because of our pacing we have limited time, but in that time we must use every minute and every second to teach. NO WASTED TIME!
Grade Level Meetings:
We have discussed pacing, scholars who need designated supports for Forward and goals. Please use your time this week to update your gradebook, prepare lessons/anchor charts, and update boards and exit ticket trackers. I will be meeting with 4th and 8th grade scholars to set goals for Forward beginning this week.
Focus of the week:
Strand 2 Teacher Action 8: An appropriate amount of time is allocated for each lesson portion to ensure students have enough reps, both guided and independently, to master the content.
Strand 2 Teacher Action 9: Teacher frequently and strategically checks for understanding and that data is used to make appropriate adjustments to instruction.

Operations Updates - Darryl Hodges - Director of Operations
Fire Drills
A few things to remember:
- When the alarm sounds, everyone should evacuate immediately.
- Teachers in charge of classes should guide scholars along the nearest evacuation route to the assembly point. We must keep everyone calm and orderly to ensure the evacuation is as safe and quick as possible.
- Staff not in charge of a class should keep an eye out for any scholars that are on their own, such as those exiting bathrooms, and guide them to the assembly point.
- Once everyone reaches the assembly point, scholars should line-up as instructed so teachers can take a roll call. If anyone is missing, it's crucial for the teacher to signal the Safety Team or Admin. Team by utilizing the classroom Emergency Safety Package.
Tolorno Drill (procedures - to follow by email)
- Tornadoes in Wisconsin... Over 1,500 tornadoes have hit Wisconsin since 1950 - over 20 a year. These have caused nearly a hundred deaths and over 1,600 injuries. In a typical year there will be millions of dollars in damage to property and crops.
