Last week, we are learned about the incredible power of forgiveness! 💫 We believe that practicing forgiveness is a vital part of our HPE Rules for Life, and we are so proud to recognize students who demonstrated exceptional kindness and understanding.

The students nominated for Student of the Week were chosen by their teachers for going above and beyond in showing forgiveness to others. Whether it was a classmate, a friend, or someone who needed a second chance, these students showed that true strength lies in the ability to forgive.

Let’s all take a moment to recognize the amazing efforts of this week’s nominees and remember that forgiveness can make our community stronger and more connected.

It's time to register for spring pictures! Harrison Parkway Spring Picture date is Thursday, March 20. There is no purchase necessary to participate. Regardless of the grade, accidents happen during the day: milk spilling at lunch, mud/wet conditions on the playground, toileting accidents, etc. Please pack an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpacks for these unexpected mishaps. If your child does need to borrow any clothes from the clinic, please launder and return to the clinic as soon as possible.

The clinic could use pants for both boys and girls. Any donation would be much appreciated.

Dear HPE parents,

From time to time, a case of head lice is reported to the school throughout the year. Should a case of head lice be brought to the school’s attention, the school nurse will maintain confidentiality of the student’s identity and assist the staff and parents with educational material. While the odds of your son or daughter developing a case of head lice are relatively small, the following includes useful information on head lice and the signs and symptoms.

Head Lice Information

• Head Lice are small parasitic insects that can be found on the heads of people.
• Head lice feed on human blood several times a day and live close to the human scalp.
• Head lice and head lice nits are found on the scalp, around and behind the ears and near the neckline at the back of the head.
• Head lice cannot fly or jump; they can only crawl
• Head lice are spread by direct head‐to‐head contact
• Head lice are rarely spread by contact with clothing or personal items (such as combs, brushes, hats or coats)
• Head lice are not a sign of uncleanliness
• Head lice are not known to spread disease.

Signs and symptoms of head lice infestation

• Tickling feeling of something moving in the hair
• Itching, caused by an allergic reaction to the bites of the head louse
• Irritability and difficulty sleeping; head lice are most active in the dark
• Sores on the head caused by scratching

If your child exhibits signs and symptoms of head lice infestation, you should examine your

child’s head (especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck) for crawling lice and nits. If crawling lice and/or nits have been found, all household members should be examined for head lice and/or nits every 3‐4 days. Persons with live (crawling) lice or nits within ¼ inch or less of the scalp should be treated.

Please be aware that we (HPE staff) do not disclose the name of the student, name of the teacher nor grade level to other families in order to provide student/family confidentiality. We do ask that if your child does have lice, please notify the school and those individuals/families that your child has been in close contact with.

Dear HPE Families,

Supporting your child when they are struggling academically is a team effort, and your involvement is invaluable. Here are some ideas to help guide your child to success:

1. Establish a Routine: A consistent routine can help your child feel secure and manage their time better. Set aside a quiet, distraction-free space for homework or studying.

2. Stay Positive and Encouraging: Celebrate small successes and encourage perseverance. Praise effort rather than just results to help build confidence and a growth mindset.

3. Break Tasks into Smaller Steps: If your child is overwhelmed, help them break assignments into smaller, manageable parts. This can make tasks feel less daunting and help them stay focused.

4. Use Visual Aids and Tools: Some children learn better with visuals. Try using charts, flashcards, or even drawings to explain concepts in a more engaging way.

5. Practice Patience: Learning is a process, and it’s important to be patient with your child. Allow them time to grasp concepts and offer encouragement even when progress feels slow.

6. Read Together: If reading is an area of struggle, spend time reading with your child. You can take turns reading aloud, discuss the stories, and ask questions to build comprehension.

7. Reinforce Learning Through Everyday Activities: Use everyday activities like cooking, shopping, or even driving to reinforce math, reading, and problem-solving skills.

8. Encourage Play and Creativity: Play is a great way for children to build critical thinking skills. Encourage creative activities like drawing, building, or playing games that require strategy and planning.

Remember, every child is unique, and with patience and persistence, they can overcome challenges and thrive. Thank you for your continued support in helping them succeed!

Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn about questions they can ask to rethink situations, and they’ll practice asking these questions using made-up stories.

Try This at Home: Ask your child, “What questions could you ask yourself to rethink a situation?” (Questions might include, “What happened?” “Has this ever happened to anyone else?” and “What’s something good that happened?”) Talk about how those questions can help them think differently about a situation.

Harrison Parkway Elementary has a Lost & Found located outside of the Music Room for any lost items. On the last day of each month, we donate all items to charities that serve people in need. Please have your student check it out if they are missing items.

Occasionally, parents must make unplanned transportation changes during the school day. All telephone calls must be received by 12:00 pm. This is to allow enough time to accurately deliver messages to teachers, as well as time to confirm the change if necessary. Please do not call the school after 12:00 pm to make a transportation change except in the case of extreme emergencies.

Mental Health Issues are common and treatable. Hamilton Southeastern Schools has a contract with Community Health Network and has a mental health therapist working with students in each of our schools. If you have questions or concerns please reach out to your school’s school counselor for further information.

A school safety mobile reporting app that allows students, staff and community members to provide anonymous information about concerns for their own safety or the safety of others. HSE Report it!, can be downloaded via Google Play or the Apple App Store. It’s anonymous and reports are made exclusively through the mobile app. HSE Report it! will has no length limitations or the need to remember a short code. Reporters can attach photos, screenshots, videos, documents and/or audio recordings to their concerns and they can engage in a two-way dialogue with a real person.
