Midway Heights Family Newsletter
October 1, 2018
Mrs. Gerzen
Its fall and that means it’s time for the Fall Festival and Chili Supper! What a great time of year! Don’t forget to sign up to be a volunteer at the Fall Fest on October 13th– it takes all of us to make it a successful fund raiser!
As you drop off and pick up your kids in the morning and evening, please remember to drive slowly through our parking lot. We want to keep all of our children safe. Parents, please do not use the bus lane. Thank you!
Another note about drop off – please make sure your students are walking in the building no later than 7:40 if you are dropping off. Our bell rings at 7:40 and teachers take attendance by 7:45.
Attendance is very important as it directly impacts student achievement and our state funding. Many of our lessons cannot be duplicated outside the school setting. We have a school goal of 95% attendance. Students who arrive tardy (after 7:45am) have missed the opening routines and announcements for the day’s events. In addition, it disrupts the instruction of their classmates. Research shows that attendance patterns developed in elementary school carry over to the adult work place. Please assist your child in developing good attendance patterns.
If your child is absent from school, please let the office know by 8:00am. You can call us at 573-214-3540 and either tell Ms. Cindy, Ms. Laurie or leave a message.
Please make sure that we have current contact information, including an email address, for your student. Most of our communication will come through email or the use of Parent Link (a system that contacts parents by phone, text and/or email).
I look forward to seeing all of you at the Fall Festival and Chili Supper on October 13th! Enjoy your dinner and have a great time with your family!
PTA President Notes
Greetings Midway Families
Fall Festival is quickly approaching! We are very excited to have a wonderful event this year. The Fall Fest team is still looking for people to help with the various positions needed at Fall Fest, please refer to the sign up genius which can be located on teacher newsletters or our Midway Heights PTA Facebook Page. Please contact Casie Rentel (crentel@cpsk12.org) with any questions about the sign up genius and she can help figure out which volunteer spot would be a good fit for you and your family! We are so close to having all volunteer positions filled!
Ticket packets have gone home. If you have any questions about ticket sales, please contact us!
Please continue to mark your calendar to attend our PTA meetings on the third Tuesday of every month (except December). We will do our best to ensure there is child supervision at every meeting in an effort to help parents who would like to attend. We welcome and encourage your participation. Come and be part of our great group of Midway volunteers!
Thank you for all you do to support our school and community. We look forward to seeing you at a PTA meeting or event soon!

Fall Festival Silent Auction
Welcome back families!
Midway’s Fall Festival and Chili Supper is around the corner and it will be great to see everyone come together for food and fun. Every year we hold a silent auction during the event; all items are donated by local businesses, community members, and families of current and past students. All donations are welcome and very much appreciated; funds from the Fall Festival, as a whole, provide funds for the PTA to support students all year long. If you know a business who would like to donate or would like to donate something personally please contact Katryna Sardis at 573-819-1735 or Sardisk@missouri.edu. Thank you in advance and we look forward to seeing everyone at Fall Fest.
Nurse Information
The student flu clinic will be held Wednesday, October 3rd from 12-2 pm. ONLY those students who have consents completed by their guardian and returned will receive the vaccine. If you would like your child to receive the vaccine and haven’t filled out a consent, you can obtain one in the office. If you returned a consent and your child has since that time received the vaccine at the doctor’s office, let us know so that your child doesn’t receive a second dose.
Emergency Preparedness:
Staff at Midway Heights have procedures in place for numerous types of emergencies. Staff participates in training on an annual basis. Drills are held for severe weather, earthquakes, fires and intruders on a monthly basis. Parents can assist us by not calling school during an actual emergency as staff are busy with the number one priority—student safety. Up-to-date information will be provided to families by the local media and the CPS text alert system. You can sign up for the text alert on the CPS web page at https://www.cpsk12.org/Page/86
