The Anxious Generation, by Jonathan Haidt
An investigation into the collapse of youth mental health, and a plan for a healthier, freer childhood. Social psychologist Jonathon Haidt explores how the rise of the "phone-based childhood" has coincided with the rise in rates of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicide in children. He explains how the increase in technology use by children interferes with social and neurological development, and proposes four simple rules that might help to stop the epidemic of mental illness in children and restore a more humane childhood. (A #1 New York Times Bestseller)
Life Under Pressure, by Anna S. Mueller and Seth Abrutyn
Despite the wide documentation of youth suicide clusters, too little is known about why youth die by suicide and how to stop them. A close examination of kids' lives in a community unveils how the social worlds that youth inhabit and the various messages they learn in those spaces shape their feelings about themselves and their risk of suicide. This book offers tangible solutions to one of the twenty-first century's most tragic public health problems.
Unearthing Joy, by Gholdy Muhammad
Dr. Muhammad shows how joy can enhance our efforts to cultivate identity, skills, intellect, and criticality for all students, giving them a powerful purpose to learn and contribute to the world.

Artificial Intelligence in 8th Grade Art
Mrs. Angeloff's classes researched an art style (such as impressionism, cubism, art nouveau, or surrealism) using our World History database to learn about its history and common elements. Then, we used Magic Studio, an AI art generator, to attempt to create artwork in that style. Even after refining the prompts, most students found the AI program lacking in execution. When we asked "Do you feel you created art?" at the end of the unit, most students said no -- the AI program involved much less work that creating "real" art, and/or the program's product didn't match the ideas they had in their heads.
