We cleaned lockers last week during our WIN classes. Hopefully, your child will have all the sweatshirts, socks, and jackets that they have left inside over the winter at home now. It's amazing what we find in those things!!

๐ Language Arts ๐
This week we are continuing to work on our personal narratives, focusing on dialogue. Students will have a quiz on Wednesday. This will cover both punctuating dialogue correctly and using it to draw inferences about characters.
As always, independent reading homework is due at the end of the month. All students should read a book of their choice and complete a Reading Counts Quiz by Friday, 5/31.
Next week, we will begin Reading NWEA. This is an exciting opportunity for students to get immediate feedback and show how much they've grown in ELA this year. Please help your child do their best by limiting screen time, getting a good night's sleep, and eating well!

FRACTION TEST RETAKE
If your child is retaking the test, he or she has until Tuesday, May 21st to do so. I personally went over the test with each student and had them check PowerSchool to see if they should retake it. I plan to be at tutoring on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. If your child needs help, pleases consider allowing them to attend tutoring until 4:30 on these days.
In math, we are reviewing all 5th grade skills. There will be a quiz/test each week to see how well the students are remembering concepts and skills.
๐งช Science ๐ญ
In science we have a test on our new vocabulary words on Wednesday. The study guide is included in this newsletter. We will be moving on to Investigation 2, developing models as an explanation of objects, events, or systems that cannot be observed directly. Models are representations used for communicating and testing. We will be working with others as scientists to create conceptual and physical models that explain how something works.
We could really use some Clorox wipes as tables are no longer being cleaned daily. Thank you!

We will be taking the U.S. State Test on Wednesday, May 15th. The end of year expectation is to identify 25/50 states. A practice test and answer key are attached.
Our last unit of the year is about The Civil War. Last week we focused on the events that led up to the Civil War including the election of Abraham Lincoln. We also read a book called I Survived: The Battle of Gettysburg. Most of the students seemed to really enjoy it. We are starting a new novel this week called John Lincoln Clem: Civil War Drummer Boy.
