Scarborough High School
October 30, 2020
Dear Students, Families, and Staff,
A letter went out this week regarding the upcoming election and this created some very challenging feelings in our school community, especially for some of our staff and students who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
Scarborough High School is committed to listening and learning and enacting changes that promote a safe and inclusive culture for all of our students. We understand that we can only reach our full potential as a school community by supporting our BIPOC students and staff and committing to eliminate implicit and explicit racist practices, behaviors and attitudes.
We are so proud of our high school students for expressing their first amendment rights in a clear and respectful manner this week and we look forward to deeper discussions and meaningful changes as we move forward with this work.
Please know that our school counselors are available to speak to students, staff and families to process any emotional reactions or to provide additional resources.

Parent Presentation: Lynn Lyons
Next Wednesday evening, November 4, at 6:00 - 7:30 PM, Lynn Lyons will be doing a parent
presentation titled, “NOW What? Helping Children (and Ourselves) Manage Emotionally During Uncertain Times”. As we navigate a school year like no other, parents need strategies to help children (and themselves) manage the worry, disappointment and uncertainty of our current pandemic-dominated environment. This presentation describes the skills needed for emotional management including how to increase flexibility, tolerate uncertainty, communicate effectively and replace catastrophic thinking with problem-solving. School staff at the high school will be a part of this presentation on Wednesday
afternoon.

She has a list of students who bought a ticket, but if you still have your ticket, it will make the refund faster.
Yearbook Information
The second run of the 2020 yearbooks have been distributed to students who pre-ordered them last year. This is being done through student AEAST/Advisory groups. If you didn’t receive a yearbook and think you pre-ordered one last year OR you would still like to purchase a copy of last year’s book please see Mr. Huntington in Room C107 or email him at ehuntington@scarboroughschools.org.
SENIORS - Your yearbook information is due today, October 30. If you didn’t make this deadline (and about half of you didn’t) please reach out to this year’s Senior Editor Adrianna Hopkins at ahopkins2021@scarboroughschools.org ASAP to let her know when you can get your information to the yearbook staff. Thank you to everyone for working to meet this deadline so yearbook content can be created in a timely manner by the 2021 Four Corners staff.
Thank You's!
We would like to thank the Maintenance Department for their work to locate and deliver wooden cubbies to the Main Office so remote students can have an assigned slot to pick up work. This is making organization a lot easier and more efficient. Thank you also to Ms. Davis and Mrs. Newcomb for their work to set things up!
Please Note
If a student at SHS takes a COVID-19 test, results must be provided to the Health Services Staff prior to returning to school or school related activities.
Please remember to:
- Pre-screen before coming to school
- Wash or sanitize your hands often
- Keep your distance
- Wear you mask properly
Be safe and be well!
