2024-25 Bobcat Bulletin

What an exciting week it has been! It started with the Holiday Extravaganza on Saturday, continued with the magical Around the World event, and wrapped up with our beloved annual school-wide sing-along. The music filled the air with joy, but what truly stood out was how our Bobcats demonstrated what it means to be Respectful, Ready, and Responsible. So many guests shared how impressed they are with our students. Hearing their kind words filled my heart with pride—I am one proud principal!

As we head into another week of celebration, the holiday spirit continues to shine brightly. We have musical performances from our band and orchestra, a special trip for our second and third graders, holiday classroom parties, and a spirit day to countdown to winter break!

Let’s celebrate the season with some festive fun! Whether you are celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or just the winter season, come dressed in your holiday best! Wear your favorite ugly sweater, cozy scarves, holiday hats, or anything that gets you into the spirit. It’s all about spreading cheer as we count down to winter break! Please Note: Individual Homerooms may have their own theme.

On Monday, Indian Lane students embarked on a journey Around the World to explore winter holiday traditions from 21 different countries. Teachers guided students through classrooms representing each country’s unique winter holiday traditions. Students selected one recipe from a choice of five options at each location. By the end of the event, each student had gathered eight recipes, which are being assembled into individual custom cookbooks to be sent home before winter break.

During Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek), our Bobcats are working on activities that help them understand the fundamentals of computer science, coding, and problem-solving in an engaging and hands-on way. Students use a variety of resources such as the Hour of Code activities, Scratch Jr., Codables, and Lightbot to learn and practice coding skills.

Some goals of CSEdWeek is to:

• Encourage Exploration: Introduce kids to the world of computer science in a way that is fun, interactive, and accessible.
• Build Problem-Solving Skills: Help kids develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills that are foundational to computer science.
• Promote Diversity in Tech: Inspire all students, particularly underrepresented groups, to consider pursuing computer science education.

The overall goal is to make computer science approachable and fun while showing students that everyone can learn to code, no matter their background or previous experience. If you would like to work on coding at home with your child, check out www.code.org.

Every child at Indian Lane is a BOBCAT & we want to celebrate with each of you. Families are invited to sign up to attend ONE Bobcat Pride Breakfast during the 2024-2025 school year. Younger siblings are welcome to attend, but please only sign up for the IL student(s) on the sheet. Each student should take one spot on the sign up sheet. The Breakfasts are held from 8:00 - 8:30 am.

Has your child ever needed a change of clothes during the school day? The nurse's office tries to keep a supply of clothes in different sizes for students in their time of need. The borrowed clothing (except for the new underwear) needs to be washed and returned as soon as possible for the next student. Thank you for keeping the nurse's office ready!

Leading Edge Kids provides before and after school care on-site at each elementary school in the district.

The Parent Portal is a central location on the district's website where parents can find helpful information. Please refer to the communication sent by the school district on August 10th which is located on the parent portal.

The Rose Tree Media School District will use electronic forms to collect Contact and Nurse information for the 2024-2025 school year. Instructions to complete the forms, will be sent via email.

Please pay close attention to all phone numbers during the review and submit process. A primary phone number is required for all contacts, both Guardian and Emergency. This will allow the district to call the correct number in the event of an emergency.
