School is open for NWIOS students on Monday, January 27, 2025
On Monday, January 27, 2025, there will be no school for students at Duneland's brick-and-mortar schools due to staff professional development. The NWIOS office will be closed until 1:00 PM, but NWIOS will have a regular school day.
NWIOS DOES HAVE SCHOOL ON MONDAY, JANUARY 27, 2025!
Students should login to their live lessons and plan to complete work on Monday, Jan. 27.
Way to Go to the 35 NWIOS students who earned Honor Roll status for Semester 1!
During the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year, thirty-five (35) students have been recognized on an Honor Roll for achieving a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
Northwest Indiana Online School awards honor roll to students in grades 5-12. Sixteen (16) students are recognized for being on the Principal's Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.67 or higher and nineteen (19) students are recognized for being on the Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.00 - 3.67.

Upcoming Assessments - Plan Ahead

- When: ebruary 11, 2025
- What: iLEARN Checkpoint #3 - REQUIRED
- Where: Remote -- if you have signed and returned the permission form--your student can take the assessment remotely from home. Otherwise, they will need to come in person to take the test.
If you are new to NWIOS for the second semester, please make sure to sign and return the agreement linked below. This agreement, which is due, on January 31, 2025, gives permission for your child to take the ILEARN Checkpoint test remotely from home. To submit the form, you may take a picture of the signed document, and return it to Mrs. Jarka by sending the picture to cjarka@duneland.k12.in.us.

8th Grade Families~Class of 2029~
Hear about the NEW Indiana Diploma Requirements
The CHS administration is inviting all 8th grade parents to an 8th grade parent information meeting to share the new Indiana Diploma Requirements.
The meeting will take place on
Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 6 pm
in the Chesterton High School Auditorium.
The CHS administration will be presenting information pertaining to the new Indiana Diploma Requirements that will go into effect for the Class of 2029. Principal, Brent Martinson, Associate Principal, Kristen Peterson, and Assistant Principal, Tiffany Hawkins, will be explaining the details of what these new requirements will look like and mean to your student as they enter high school.
Scheduling for the 2025-2026 School Year
Grade Level ~ Current 8th , 9th, 10th, & 11th
We will begin meeting with students in March to discuss scheduling classes for the 2025-2026 school year. Watch for more information in the NWI News about scheduling a time to meet virtually or in person with Mrs. Jarka and Mrs. Palko. Mr. Adams may join some of the meetings, too.

What Happens if Duneland Schools are Delayed or Closed?
Everyday is an eLearning Day!
As a Northwest Indiana Online School student, if the Duneland School Corporation has a scheduled day off for staff development, closes due to inclement weather, or has a two-hour delay, it will still be an school day for you. However, knowing if the DSC offices are affected by a delay or closure, mayne helpful to you as other services may be impaced.
Upcoming information -
Monday, January 27, 2025 - Students attending traditional schools in the Duneland School Corporation will have the day off, as staff will be participating in a full day of training. However, students enrolled in the Northwest Indiana Online School will still have live lessons and should plan to participate as usual and complete their assignments for the week.

Capital Improvements for 2025
The Duneland School Corporation will continue to improve current facilities to enhance the student experience with the following capital improvements in 2025: playground replacements at Bailly, Brummitt, Jackson, and Liberty elementary schools and soccer stadium renovations and carpet replacement at Chesterton High School. This presentation below provides additional details on the scope of each project. Concept drawings and timelines regarding 2021-2025 capital improvement projects are available on the DSC website.
