Principal's Chat
What a wonderful first week of school! It was so exciting having our students back in the building! We spent most of the week reviewing rules and procedures so that we are set for a great school year. Mrs. Jensen and I visited classrooms and saw students actively engaged and learning!
On Monday, we had Code of Behavior assemblies for all of our students. Mrs. Jensen, Mr. Porter (security), and myself reviewed PWCS and Mountain View expectations for behavior. I am continuing those reminders on our morning announcements for the next two weeks. Students know that they come to school to learn and that we have to have a positive environment so we can learn. Our Cougars truly Lead the Way with positive behavior!
September is Attendance Awareness Month! We will recognize the classes who have 100% attendance on the afternoon announcements. We look forward to seeing all of our MVES Cougars every day!

Cell Phone-Free Education in Virginia K-12 Public Schools
Executive Order 33 directs the Virginia Department of Education to provide guidance to school boards on cell phone-free education policies and procedures. School boards will establish local cell phone-free education policies and procedures.
PWCS has been sharing information on this executive order with the community and the division's approach to meeting this guidance. Please see the link below for additional information.
Wireless Communication Device Usage Pilot Program - Prince William County Public Schools (pwcs.edu)
Mountain View students are expected to keep their cell phones off and in their backpacks. Smart watches should be in airplane mode. Best practice is to keep all devices safely secured in the student's backpack. Thank you for partnering with us to reduce student distractions and maximize learning opportunities throughout the school day.
Reminders
Water Bottles
Please send a reusable water bottle to school for your child. They can refill during the day at one of our 4 bottle refilling stations. Please label the bottle with your child's name.
Label Items
Please label your child's jacket/sweater/outer wear. We already have items in the Lost and Found that haven't been claimed. Also put your child's name (or at least first initial and last name) on their lunch box, snack box, and any other item that might get left in the cafeteria, by the bathrooms, or on the playground.
Kindergarten Colors
This week our kindergarten classes celebrated learning their colors! Check out some of the fun!

Kiss and Ride
Thank you for being safe and cautious through the Kiss & Ride line!
Reminders:
Please do not stop along the grass curve by the brick Mountain View sign. Whether the orange cones and "No Stopping" signs are there or not, it is important that vehicles do not stop along that curve. It blocks the street and makes it challenging for the busses to get by safely.
Please do not block the bus entrance or exits as you are waiting in the K&R lane.
Please be mindful of pulling up close to the vehicle in front of you so we can fit vehicles along the sidewalk.
Note that the Day Care Vans do not go all the way down McLeod. They turn directly into the K&R lane so they can pick up/drop off our students and then go to their next school.
Strings for 5th Graders
5th Graders have the opportunity to join strings class! They can choose between violin, viola, cello, or bass. We have class 2 days a week during the school day. Remember to register soon!

Watch D.O.G.S.
We are ready to have Watch DOGS back in the building! Fathers and father figures, please join us for our kick-off event on September 13th. You will get information on the program and opportunities to schedule days to volunteer. We will provide volunteer training that evening, so you will be all set to be a Watch DOG!
Technology Chat
Technology
Students and teachers have been working hard getting student's passwords reset and their iPads set up and running for the year! If your student brings their device home, please do not change their iPad passcode or change their iPad settings as we have set them up a specific way in the building. If you are having any issues while at home, please contact your student's teacher or email me at hurleyja@pwcs.edu and we will troubleshoot and fix the issue the next school day.
Thank you for your support!
Mrs. Hurley
