Student / Staff Holiday - no school

As a reminder, we have our 8th grade field trip to Leander High School coming up on January 23rd. Permission slips were passed out to your student in their 5th period class on 1/4/23 and were due today (1/13/23). If your student still needs to complete their permission slip, please see the permission slips at the bottom of this newsletter and have your student return it to their 5th period teacher. You are also welcome to email it to your students 5th period teacher or Ms. Douglas (Shanelle.Douglas@leanderisd.org).

Auditions for Clue (High School Edition) are live in google classroom. Students should join the auditions google classroom with the code: 7oypuka. All auditions and tech applications are due on January 18th. Callbacks will be in person on Friday, January 20th by invite only. Questions? RBMS students will have the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee through our Classroom Spelling Bees, which will be administered by ELA teachers during our first days back in school from winter break. Winners of classroom competitions will advance to the Schoolwide Spelling Bee, the winner of which will have a chance to compete in the Austin Regional Spelling Bee. Track will start on February 6th. You MUST have a physical turned in to one of the coaches and ALL of the forms filled out before you can participate in track. If you are interested in participating please:

Are you an eighth-grade student who would benefit from obtaining your high school diploma while also earning an associate degree TUITION FREE? Leander ISD has partnered with Austin Community College to create LISD’s Early College High School (ECHS). LISD ECHS combines high expectations, academic rigor through inquiry-based instruction, and individualized student supports to prepare our scholars for academic success.

LISD ECHS will soon be selecting the second cohort through a blind lottery process for incoming 2023-24 ninth graders. All interested students must complete and submit an application for admission prior to the deadline. The application submission window is January 3 – March 3, 2023. Applications are available on our ECHS website and through middle school counselors.

This six-week program is designed to help parents nurture responsible, respectful, fun-to-be-around children who will learn how to make their own choices, own their problems, think critically and logically for themselves, while parents let empathy and consequences do the teaching. The course is appropriate for parents with any aged child and any situation: home, school or even work. The series is open to any parent. In an effort to promote mental health awareness and reduce the stigma of seeking help for mental health concerns, the Leander ISD Counseling Services team is excited to continue the Mental Health Minute video series. Check out this video about what to do if a friend needs help.

Donations will be collected by grade level and held in 2-week increments. First up: 6th grade! Jan. 30 - Feb. 10.

We especially need these items (no glass please):

Canned tuna, chicken, corned beef, Vienna sausages, SPAM, chili, soup, canned fruit and vegetables.

Oatmeal, cereal, granola bars, Hamburger/Tuna/Chicken Helper, stuffing mix, scalloped potatoes, and instant mashed potatoes.
