ALL EXPENSES PAID-AMERICAN LEGION-BOYS STATE
Iowa Boys State is a week-long, all expenses paid, leadership program for high school juniors that provides invaluable hands-on experiences in government, civic engagement, and public service. Participants create mock governments, debate policies, and interact with officials. The program is a steppingstone for future leaders, with notable alumni including astronaut Neil Armstrong and basketball legend Michael Jordan.
This program is offered at no cost to participants, thanks to sponsorships from organizations like yours. We'd really appreciate your support in two ways:
1. Help us identify candidates: Eligible students are current high school juniors who show
leadership, academic promise, and community involvement.
2. Consider financial donation: Contributions help cover program costs and ensure more students
from our community have this life-changing opportunity.
To learn more, we encourage you to view our videos on YouTube. A flyer is attached to be shared with your network to help spread the word.
If you're interested in supporting this effort or have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Together, we can provide young leaders in our community with remarkable opportunity to grow.

Post Prom Committee Needs You!
The North Scott Post Prom Committee is seeking donations for our alcohol and drug-free junior/senior Post Prom party. The festivities will be supervised by volunteers with oversight from law enforcement and the high school administration. The event will be held at the North Scott Junior High School after the Prom dance on Saturday, May 17th, 2025 from 11:00 p.m. until 2:30 a.m.
Admission to Post Prom is free, and all North Scott juniors and seniors are welcome (regardless of whether they attend Prom). Students who accompany a junior/senior to Prom (and submit permission forms) are also able to attend Post Prom free of charge. North Scott seniors and juniors who stay for the duration of the event are eligible to win prizes. Unlimited fun, food/refreshments, music, photo ops, games, activities, and a hypnotist show will be enjoyed by all. In order to offer this amazing opportunity free of charge, our committee works hard all school year planning and fundraising (it costs roughly $50-75 per attendee to put this event on and we often have over 300 students participate). Your generous donations (and the support of local businesses/civic organizations) make this possible.
We hope you will consider making a donation to continue this fun, safe, memory making event. Monetary and food donations are most welcome and responses appreciated by April 18, 2025.
Attention: parents and caregivers of class of 2025!

EICC Concurrent Summer Program
EICC’s concurrent summer program is returning this year. Funded by the state, all course-related expenses will be covered for high school students attending the summer college classes below.
The program has limited spaces and will be filled on a first-come basis. High schools may recommend students to the program, with current high school juniors (Class of 2026) given preference for enrollment.
Participants must be current high school students who will continue their enrollment into Fall 2025. Graduating seniors are not eligible. Students recommended for the program should have an appropriate academic background, an interest in pursuing the career field in which they will be taking classes, and good attendance habits. The summer program may be offered in an accelerated format making attendance critical. Students will be responsible for their transportation. If you are interested in pursuing one of the summer concurrent courses stop in the counseling office to get a CCIR form to fill out. Reach out to your school counselor with any questions.

LANCER LOOKOUT - MAY
Prom Night: Make It a Night to Remember—for the Right Reasons
As the music swells and the lights sparkle, we know Prom is one of the most
unforgettable nights of the year. You've earned this celebration, and now its your time to shine.
But before you step into the limo, snap those photos, and dance the night away,
remember:
Your choices matter.
Don’t let one bad decision dim your shine.
Say no to drugs and alcohol. Say no to driving under the influence. Whether you're behind the wheel or riding with a friend, make sure you are choosing safety.
The best memories don’t end in sirens.
Hospital gowns don’t make good prom dresses.
The best outfits don’t belong in the back of an ambulance.
The best nights end with hugs, not regrets.
Make plans ahead of time. Call for a ride. Stay over. Be the friend who looks out for others.
Let’s make Prom 2025 magical and safe—for everyone.
This is Officer Jahns asking you to: Drive smart. Celebrate safe. Make it home.

New Attendance Information for 24-25
With the passing of Senate File 2435 and changes to Iowa Code Chapter 299 Compulsory Education, we want to provide you with our updated procedures for responding to student absenteeism.
5 days of absences (5% of a semester): A courtesy letter will be emailed to inform caregivers of excessive absences.
9 days of absences (10% of a semester): The state defines this 10% mark as "chronically absent." An email and certified letter will be sent to caregivers to notify them of "chronically absent" status and the county attorney's office will be notified.
14 days of absences (15% of a semester): The school will contact caregivers to schedule a required School Engagement Meeting, where an Absenteeism Prevention Plan will be created.
18 days of absences (20% of a semester): The state defines this 20% mark as "truant." The school will notify the School Resource Officer, who will consult with the county attorney's office. Truancy charges may be filed
To report a student absence call your schools main office and press 1 for the attendance office.
