On February 11, 2025, Lovington Schools received the following information from the NMDOH

NEW MEXICO HEALTH ALERT NETWORK (HAN) ADVISORY

Confirmed Case of Measles in Lea County

The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) has confirmed one case of measles in a teenager from Lea County. This child did not have any reported or known exposure to the ongoing measles outbreak occurring in West Texas, along the Lea County border. Given the lack of travel or known exposure for this case, there is potential for undetected spread of measles in Southeast New Mexico.

There were two known exposures from this case in public settings. NMDOH is reaching out to exposed contacts from the following locations:

• Nor-Lea Hospital Emergency Department at 1600 Main Street, Lovington, NM on Sunday, February 9, 2025 from 10:00am to 3:30pm.

• Sixth Grade Academy gymnasium at 310 N 5th Street, Lovington, NM on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.

If you have any questions regarding your child(ren) please contact your school nurse or health care provider.

We are in the winter season and New Mexico weather likes to keep us on our toes! I want to take this opportunity to remind us all of the procedures we follow when it comes to inclement weather.

A decision is typically made early in the morning as we are out looking at road conditions and temperatures. You will be notified via Parent Square and the district website, if a delay or closure is deemed necessary. Social media messaging may occur as well but will not be the first methods of communication.

Delays are an automatic 3-hour delay which means schools will receive children at 10:50 AM and school will begin at 11:00 AM. Students will be served lunch on delay days.

If a delay turns into a closure, updates will be sent out via Parent Square and the district website. Please make sure you have Parent Square downloaded and are receiving district communications.
