A Note from the Principal
We are looking for a few parents that would be interested in joining our school improvement team Meetings are from 4 - 6 PM once a month. We have a partnership with Regina Johnson, from the Regional Office of Education, to help us with our journey of creating a more diverse, inclusive and equitable experience for students at Steele. In addition, we discuss our school improvement goals and our progress towards those. We welcome different perspectives and suggestions which is why we are looking to grow our team. If you are interested, please contact me at kcoate@galesburg205.org. Our next meeting is on November 12th.
The end of first quarter will quickly be upon us. On Friday, October 11th we will dismiss one hour early so that teachers have an opportunity to work on report cards. Report cards will be available on Skyward on October 14th. Fall Break is the next week where we will have no school from October 14th - 18th. We hope that this break is a chance for you to spend quality time as a family.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Coate

How do we grade at the elementary level? We use a standards-based report card instead of a report card with letter grades. Elementary report cards are issued at the end of each grading period. They are intended to give an evaluation of the scholastic achievement and work habits of each child. Parents should examine all cards carefully since each child is rated not only on academic progress, but also progress in development of social attitudes and work habits.
We use a 4,3,2,1 system to assess a student's mastery of standards.
4 = Exceeding State and District Standards
3 = Meeting State and District Standards
2 = Approaching State and District Standards
1 = Not Meeting State and District Standards
