Parent-Teacher Conference: What to Expect and How to Prepare
Parent-Teacher Conferences are an important opportunity for us to work together to support student success. These meetings typically last about 20 minutes and focus on your child’s progress in school. During the conference, you will discuss:
- Academic and Social Growth: Learn how your child is doing in meeting grade-level standards and expectations.
- Report Cards and Assessments: Review your child’s report card, test results, and other assignments.
- Individual Strengths and Areas for Improvement: Celebrate achievements and identify ways to support growth.
- Student Work Examples: See samples of your child’s work to understand their progress.
- Classroom Behavior and Support: Discuss discipline, resources, and support available.
- Goal Setting: Collaborate on setting goals for your child’s future learning.
- Questions and Concerns: Address any questions or worries you may have.
How to Prepare for the Conference:
Talk to Your Child:
- Ask how they feel about school.
- Find out what they enjoy or struggle with.
- Ask if there’s anything they want you to discuss with their teacher.
Make a List of Topics to Discuss:
- Write down any specific concerns or areas you’d like more information about.
Consider Common Questions:
- What are my child’s strengths and areas for improvement?
- Does my child turn in homework on time?
- Does my child actively participate in class?
- What can my child do to improve academically?
We look forward to meeting with you and discussing how we can best support your child’s learning journey!

The Month of November is Native American Heritage Month
November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures, and significant contributions of Native American people. This month is especially important to our school community as we strive to create a learning environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
At Dyer-Kelly, we believe it is essential to honor the unique histories and traditions of Native American communities. By learning about their resilience, creativity, and influence, we help our students understand the importance of respect and appreciation for all cultures.
Throughout this month, our school will share educational activities and stories that highlight the heritage and achievements of Native Americans. We encourage families to join us in celebrating this meaningful time by discussing the importance of Native American history and culture at home.
Thank you for your partnership in making Dyer-Kelly a place where all voices are valued and celebrated.
