FIELD TRIP REMINDERS
*NEW* Field Trip Reminders and ACTIONS:
- All parents attending a field trip MUST have a background check on file, even if they are meeting at an off site event-any school sponsored event requires ANY adult to have an approved background check on file. Please note: it takes 2 weeks to get approved.
- PLEASE SUBMIT A LIST OF YOUR CHAPERONES 2 weeks prior to the FIELD TRIP to the front office. We will check to see who is approved and who is not.
- Please submit a final roster of background-checked approved and confirmed chaperones.
- Please utilize the DISTRICT permission slips.
- Please submit a copy of your permission slip and communication flyer prior to sending to communities for my approval along with your permission slip request.
*OLD* FIELD TRIP REMINDERS:
No field trips on Count Day
Please see the updated rules and regulations for student travel, any paperwork moving forward should be on the document below. Two key changes to note-
"For elementary school day trips, a ratio of one adult to five (or less) students is recommended"
"The trip sponsor is responsible for ensuring that copies of medial forms are readily available. In addition, all required medication must be available and properly administered according to individual student health plans and Board of Education Policy 5325 – Administration of Medication."
WALKIE TALKIES REMINDERS
Teachers-
Thanks to our Crisis Prevention training, we have some IMPORTANT REVISIONS made regarding WALKIE TALKIE calls. These are for EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY. To streamline the process, we have some revised definitions of permissible Walkie Talkie "support calls, and KIP/emergency calls." It is critical that you review the policies and procedures prior to utilizing our walkie talkies. There are very strict parameters in which we must adhere to as well as what information/words spoken are permissible when utilizing walkie talkies. Additionally, ANY/ALL calls made will need to be document and paperwork submitted to aide in our collection of student data critical for SSTs, IEPs, and 504 supports.
Furthermore, we are sharing a tentative CALL LIST SCHEDULE of who will be responding to calls on certain days and the order of responding in order to provide an organized approach. PLEASE REVIEW CAREFULLY.
We have requested some of our Crisis Intervention Providers to help host a staff meeting to provide additional guidelines and parameters when utilizing KIP and/or SUPPORT CALLS.
PERMISSIBLE CALLS FROM STAFF INCLUDE: ALL CALLS HAVE TO BE DOCUMENTED
- KIP CALL-EMERGENCY ONLY (See sheet for definition-paperwork will be required to be completed including input from the teacher requesting information).
- SUPPORT CALL (Documentation will be required to be submitted by the teacher following a support call).
- Say, "SUPPORT TO ROOM____" NO INITIALS OR NAMES SHARED. NOTHING ELSE SPOKEN.
- Say, "KIP to (LOCATION) for (provide initials)"
- During a KIP call, the channel should remain clear and only be utilized by the KIP team to communicate the situation unfolding.
*STAFF SHOULD ONLY CONTACT FRONT OFFICE FOR A CUSTODIAL ISSUE-NOT ON WALKIES*
AMPLIFY/SAVVAS PLANNING TIME SURVEY
Many of you have voiced your opinions regarding your desire for additional time needed to inventory materials or dig deeper into our Amplify Science and Savvas curriculum. We are trying to figure out a way to make it happen to provide substitutes for 60-90 minutes (or longer) with substitute teachers, if possible. Please take a minute to share your responses below by FRIDAY, January 31st before we begin the process of finding substitute teachers.
Are you interested in a substitute for planning?
If interested, for which grade level?
ANTI-BULLYING POLICY REMINDERS
Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the Board policy on Anti-Bullying. We will cover this for training at our February Staff Meeting again. Students will continue to get lessons on Anti-Bullying for Friendship Friday messages on morning announcements. In the meantime, a copy of the form will be in your mailboxes to place in your Collins Binders.
Please report and notify me personally if you receive any information from parents regarding this topic. In the past few years, we have had to conduct formal investigations. We take these very seriously.
Thank you.

SCHOOL SAFETY
Safety remains a priority for our school. Collins Elementary is once again providing training to our students on our safety protocols. The protocols identify actions that students may be asked to take in the event of a potential incident: hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate and shelter.
The training is provided through a short, animated video. In the video, the teacher – Mrs. Appleton – and her students walk through the different responses in a very relaxed and engaging way for younger children. The script was written by our staff.
The protocols will continue to be part of the training while practicing our regular school safety drills, such as fire drills, security drills, tornado drills, evacuation procedures, etc.
The video is available for you to review at this link: UCS School Safety: Standard Response Protocol - Elementary - YouTube If you have any questions, please contact our office.
