End of an Unprecedented School Year
Dear Atholton Families,
Happy Father’s Day!
It is hard to believe that we have come to the last Sunday newsletter of the school year. There are two days of school remaining. The schedule is below. I want to thank you for your flexibility, your understanding, and your cooperation as we all ventured into uncharted territory with remote learning. This has certainly been a learning experience for everyone.
Just a reminder that tomorrow and Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, our 9th - 11th grade families may drop off their athletic uniforms and/or equipment. We are still missing many uniforms. Please plan to drop them off.
Given the disruptive nature of the Covid-19 school closures, HCPSS is giving students multiple opportunities to convert one or more 4th quarter grades of Incomplete (I) into a Pass (P). There will be three primary phases for these efforts:
Up to June 23rd, 2020: students will have the opportunity to complete their Q4 required assignments to receive a grade of Pass. All Canvas assignments will be left posted through June 23rd. Please contact teachers to ASAP!
Students will not have access to Canvas after July 3.
Summer 2020: students who did not complete their Q4 requirements by June 23rd will have the opportunity to earn these requirements over the summer through the Innovative Pathways Summer Program. Students will be provided with hardcopy packets and/or Canvas assignments that they will need to complete by the end of the summer program. The distribution of the packets/assignments will be done through mail and the summer programs, not at the school level. Students who successfully complete these assignments will have their Q4 grades changed from I to P.
Beginning of SY to September 15th, 2020: When students return for SY20-21, they will have until September 15th to complete assignments that fulfill the Q4 requirements. Students may share completed work with schools and schools will be provided with the packets and/or Canvas assignments used in the summer programs and encouraged to assist students in completing the work before September 15th.
Lastly, I wish everyone a relaxing and productive summer. We do not know what the beginning of our year will look like in August. More than ever, I will need you to be vigilant about reading my emails during the summer for updates on developments for the upcoming year. This will include any information regarding athletics and tryouts. I would strongly suggest that you get your physicals completed and be ready should we be given the green light. Please contact our Athletics and Activities Manger, Mr. Michael Senisi at Michael_Senisi@hcpss.org if you have any questions.
Have a wonderful summer and see you (whether virtually or in person) in August!
Warmest Regards,
Robert A. Motley
Principal
