St Elizabeth's News
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 6 | 24 May 2024
Good afternoon parents and caregivers,
It’s hard to believe that we have reached the halfway point of a very long and busy term! I would like to sincerely thank those parents who have taken the time to go through with their children the new School Expectations and Behaviour Support Matrix that was in last in the newsletter last week. Your support is very much appreciated.
Wednesday was National Simultaneous Storytime, which is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 24th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy. This year 'Bowerbird Blues' by Aura Parker was the chosen picture book, which has inspired imagination, courage and confidence in readers as well as a love, curiosity and passion for nature. Thank you to Mrs Burgess for leading this wonderful event!
The Year Four students enjoyed a wonderful excursion to the Fremantle Prison on Thursday. The excursion links directly with the History learning area and is a great opportunity for students to learn all the interesting facts and stories associated with Fremantle. The students enjoyed a wonderful morning at the Fremantle Prison on Thursday and returned with lots of interesting facts and stories. A big thank you to Mrs Celinski, Mrs Fitzgerald and Mrs Williams for organising such a fabulous experience.
Finally, May is Cystic Fibrosis awareness month, and today we took part in 65 Roses Day, a fundraising event for Cystic Fibrosis WA, as well as raising awareness of the condition in our community. As many of you are aware, one of our Pre-Primary students Beau has CF, and this year we have helped his family raise money for CFWA by donating towards Beau’s Garden either via online donations or buying a rose. To raise money for such a wonderful organisation, who assist a number of children and their families, reinforces the importance of living out the values of St Elizabeth. Beau, we hope your garden is in full bloom!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
God Bless
Rebecca Clarke
Principal
Strategic Direction Update
One of our bold goals from our Strategic Direction Plan that we have been focussing on is ensuring we are a calm, orderly and engaging place to teach and learn. This week, after reviewing the Student Code of Conduct, we introduced to the students from Kindergarten to Year Six, the first two steps towards achieving our bold goal. Firstly, a set of School Expectations that are visible across all areas of the school. These are simple expectations based on the value of RESPECT. The second part is introducing a Behaviour Support Matrix that clearly outlines the consequences of unacceptable behaviour at school. Below are copies of the visuals that are displayed in each classroom and learning area.
