Tharptown Elementary School

This week has been designated to honor teachers everywhere. It has been set aside to show teachers how much we appreciate what they do each day for students. However, most people have no idea what you actually do every day, how hard your work, and how much you care about your students.

I have had the privilege of working beside each of you this past year. I've have seen, first hand, your hard work and determination. I have witnessed your dedication to the students, school, and community. I have watched you learn and grow just as your students have. I have seen you take such pride in what you do and get so excited when you see your students learn and achieve all the things you desire them to achieve.

Matthew 6:21 states "For where your treasure is, there wil your heart be also." It is evident that your treasure is within the walls of Tharptown Elementary School because that is definitely where your heart is located!

I believe teaching is the most unappreciated profession there is and I am hoping that through this pandemic, those outside the school environment will realize the true impact you make on a child's life. I pray that the appreciation for what you do will go through the roof and that no parent, student, or community member will ever take you and your profession for granted as they have done in the past.

With all this being said, I hope all of you know and realize that I appreciate all you do and am so thankful to work with all of you. Although we will not get to celebrate together this year like we normally would, we can still celebrate that we have been chosen for our role in a child's life and future. For that, I will always be grateful!

This week's learning opportunity covers the first of the five fundamental practices and is the practice of "Framing the Lesson." This is probably considered the most important practice as it helps students understand what they are learning and how they will demonstrate what they have learned. I hope you will take the time to watch the video as we will begin implementing these practices in the fall.

As I stated in a previous email, we will be mailing report cards this year. They will be mailed on May 18th. A huge thanks goes out to all of you for getting your grades completed and especially to Ms. McRight for getting the report cards printed and ready to go. Your class report cards, envelopes, and stamps are on your desk. For grades 1-5, please fold the report cards so that the school's return address and the student's mailing address are visible through the window envelope (see picture above). Seal the report cards and leave them on your desk. We will collect them on May 18th and mail them.

I can't thank you enough for the beautiful flowers and candle that was sent to me for National Principal's Day! It was such a wonderful surprise and definitely brightened my day, week, well month for that matter! I feel very blessed to work beside such a wonderful group of people and I couldn't be more thankful to be at Tharptown Elementary School!

Another important person to honor this week is our school nurse, Mrs. Linda Castillo. Mrs. Castillo has done a fabulous job for us this year in taking good care of our students and helping us in any way she can. She is an integral part of Tharptown Elementary School and we couldn't make it without her! I encourage all of you to take time this week to reach out to her to show your appreciation for what she does each day!

Since hair salons are closed, we are having to be creative and experimental concerning our hair. I had a little fun this week checking out some possible styles and colors. I figured you all needed a good laugh! Anyone have a preference??

This is the last week (May 4 - 8) that we will push out work and learning opportunities to students. Although this year ended so unexpectedly and so quickly, all of you have done an outstanding job in the transition from traditional school to online learning. You have made your students feel loved, missed, and appreciated. They will never forget all the things you have done for them. As we wind down this school year, I hope all of you know how great you are and the impact you make on the lives of young people. You have the power to change the world one student at a time and I've seen you do it...especially over the last few weeks!
