Week of September 30 Parent Edition
Kay's Creek Updates
Hello Kay's Creek Families,
We had a little inspiration this week from Paul Brewer, a very talented magician and STEM advocate. Take a look at the pics below! There was all kinds of learning happening across the school, including a yummy smelling Johnny Appleseed Day in 3rd grade.
We wrap up September Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with extra gratitude and the good news that our dear friend, Isaac Shipp, is now attending school part time! Hooray! Thank you everyone for your support. We hope to see you all in YELLOW on this last Monday!
We want to compliment our special educators and students for the creative work they did in preparation for the USU (Kaysville) Scarecrow Walk that starts September 28. If you're looking for a fun family activity, take a look at the information below. You can't work with children every day without having A LOT of discussions about feelings. 😁 Our teachers, Ms. Smith, Mrs. Bennion, Mrs. Shelley, and Mrs. McLean, and their assistants do this beautifully! They had fun creating their own versions of Inside Out scarecrows. It's this kind of passion and commitment at Kay's Creek that makes this such a wonderful place to be. Thank you team! We hope you all get to enjoy the scarecrow walk.
One last thing...we have a few school Every 1 Belongs shirts left in stock, and there's a link below to order other sizes online AND we have sweatshirts and hoodies available online! Take a look!
Have a wonderful week!

Counselor's Corner
Hello Kay's Creek,
The last few weeks we've talked about friendships and their important role in the development and happiness of our children and students. Friendships are equally important for us. As adults balancing careers, families, and responsibilities, friends provide support, connection, and a crucial network for sharing our lives. As we enjoy close friendships throughout our lives, adults see lower levels of stress, better mental health, and even longer life expectancies. Strong friendships also help to maintain a sense of purpose and joy. We can make our friendships a priority by remembering the phrase, "make time and make time meaningful." The first thing we can do is make time for our friends. It's unreasonable to expect anything good to grow and improve without time and attention put into it. Whether it’s a phone call, video call, text, or chat, staying in touch with our friends doesn’t have to be difficult. The second thing is to make the time we have meaningful. We can do this by listening and being present. As we keep strong friendships in our own lives, we model for our children and students how they maintain friendships, resolve conflicts, and care about others beyond their families. Regarding friendships, Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "a friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature."

STEM ON STAGE Assembly
Kay's Creek was so fortunate to be one of 60 schools this year that got to welcome Paul Brewer and his "Stem on Stage" show to our school. He used his engaging personality and mind-boggling talents to inspire students to delve into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Although it appeared to be magic that made a bird fly out of the balloon, it was engineering! The dancing bunny was a favorite, and the human table our 6th grade boys created was amazing. Students and staff laughed, were wowed, and thoroughly inspired. Thank you to the STEM Action Center and the many donors that made this show possible! Ask your kids about it!
Safety Ribbon Week at Kay's Creek! Oct 7-11
Every year we remind ourselves and students about important ways to stay safe in and out of school. Thank you, Amanda Lillywhite PTA rep, for helping us organize this year's ribbon week and challenge. I highly encourage us all to mark these dates and have these crucial conversations with our children and commit to signing the pledges. We are all vulnerable to accidents, mistakes, and harm from others. Let's prepare ourselves and our children the best we can so they are safe every day in every situation. Watch for the pledge sheets to come home!

Policies & Procedures
- Toys should not be brought to school unless a teacher gives permission for a specific purpose. Resin miniatures, such as the little ducks that are so popular, fit under this policy. They are becoming a disruption in class and some students have even begun selling them on the playground. If your child has a collection of these resin figures, please make sure they keep them at home. They are not allowed at school.
- The 2024-25 Belonging & Safe Schools Presentation has been presented to all 1st-6th grade students, with the exception of a few students who were absent. We invite parents of kinder students to view it and determine how you would like to share it with your child.
- Cell phones and smart watches must be kept in students' backpacks, powered down, and not used during school hours for communication. However, if a child needs to contact a parent, they are always able to use a school phone, with teacher permission. Students who require use of either one for a medical or 504 plan are an exception.
- Birthdays are recognized at school by classroom teachers, Principal Bukey, and the PTA. We will not be allowing treats to be brought in from home for student birthdays. This is for the safety of the many students we have with special dietary needs. Thank you for your understanding.
- Parents sometimes bring a special lunch in for their child. We ask that the lunches are kept to single servings so that students are not sharing outside food with tablemates.
