Parent Teacher Conferences Set for April 8th and 9th
It is important for parents and teachers to connect to discuss the learning and social emotional progress of our students. Spring conferences are a great opportunity to make sure your child is on track in reading and math, and also a time to find out what you can do to support them in preparing for the next grade level.
This year we will also be having our 5th graders sign up for classes for 6th grade. This will be located in our library. 5th graders (and their parents) are welcome to go to the library before or after their conference time.
Links to sign up for conferences are below:
Cooperation Award Winners for March
These students exhibit the skill of cooperation. MES is so proud of this group, as we know that cooperation is a skill that is important as a child and as an adult. A huge thank you to the families of these students, as we know that these skills start from an early age!
Chess for Success!
In February, our MES Chess team won 1st place at the Chess For Success Regional Tournament at Talmadge Middle School. This qualified us for the Chess For Success State Tournament on Friday, April 12th at the Portland Expo Center. Additionally, four students qualified for the Individual Chess Competition on Saturday, April 13th. Good luck at State!
In March, some of our MES Chess players attended the Albany Memorial K-12 Chess Tournament. Our team placed 1st place as well.
Our regular chess season is ending on Tuesday, April 16th.
Future competitions our chess club students can compete in:
Vangie Shaw Memorial Girls Chess Tournament on Saturday, April 27th at Centennial Middle School in Portland, OR
Galactic Challenger Tournament on Saturday, May 4th at Crossler Middle School in Salem, Oregon
MES Social Skills Groups
One of the areas that our Student Support Teachers have been focusing on this school year is helping students to build social emotional skills that they may struggle with. We have dozens of students to participate in these groups, are we are seeing a lot of growth in our students. You may have heard of teachers Mrs. Noble or Mrs. Holt. They work with individuals and groups of students on a daily basis. The following document shows what groups look like at MES.
