GMS Jr. High February 2025 Update
February 5, 2025
Notes from Administration
Welcome GMS Families to February! The school year is going so fast. Thank you to all of our students, teachers, and families for your amazing adjustments to school closures and late starts due to the weather. Please remember your students' safety is our number one priority. Our superintendent makes difficult decisions everyday and we appreciate his thoughtful approach to making these hard decisions.
HONOR ROLL:
We have amazing students at GMS! This past Friday we celebrated 99 students who achieved a 3.5GPA or higher for second quarter with our Honor Roll Assembly. Students were recognized in front of their peers for their accomplishments. They earned a certificate and a water bottle sticker. Great job students!

If you have ever tried to play chess and learn chess rules it is not very easy and these students are some of our best and brightest to compete on behalf of GMS. Congratulations to: Maximus Mavernac - 3rd place Table Finisher
Junior High Competitive Robotics Team
At the end of January our Robotics Team consisting of 6th-8th graders competed in the final competition of the year. All of our teams made it to the Quarter Final rounds.

GMS 8th Graders Explore Exciting STEM Careers!
Feb 4 2025
February 3rd, 2025, was a big day for the 8th-grade STEM class at GMS! Students showed off all their hard work in their STEM Career Project presentations. Each student picked a cool STEM career to investigate, and then shared what they learned with the class. Ms. Smith, their teacher, was super proud of all their efforts.
The presentations covered a wide range of fascinating fields. Elizabeth S. explored the world of Biomedical Engineering, learning about designing medical devices and helping people. Katilyn K. dove into Biochemistry, discovering how scientists study the chemistry of living things. For those interested in solving mysteries, Natalee M. presented on the life of a Private Investigator. Kemal M. talked about the important work of an Ethical Hacker, protecting computer systems from cyber threats.
If design and building are your thing, Lilyanna M.'s presentation on Architectural Design was a must-see. Jack G. explored the world of Civil Engineering, learning about building bridges and roads. And for those with a love of flying, Kyo O. shared his research on becoming a U.S. Military Aviator.
Each student's presentation covered a lot of important information. They talked about what the job is like day-to-day, what kind of education you need, and even potential health risks. They also looked at how much money you can make, how many jobs are available, and what kind of benefits you might get. Finally, each student explained why they thought they would be a good fit for their chosen career.
Ms. Smith's STEM class isn't just about presentations, though! Throughout the year, students get to work on hands-on projects in the makerspace. They use cool tools like 3D printers and 2D lasers to bring their ideas to life. This project gave them a chance to connect their creativity and making skills to real-world careers. It was a great way for the students to explore the exciting possibilities of STEM!
