Frequently Asked Questions
Band only meets during the related arts period during the school day. There are no after school obligations throughout the year with the exception of 2 concerts in December and March/April.
Can I be an athlete and participate in Band?
Yes! The middle school bands only meet during their related arts period. We try to schedule concerts to not conflict with sporting events. At the high school level, we communicate with coaches and are flexible to meet the needs of our students.
What if I need assistance obtaining an instrument?
We have a local music company (Music Doctors, INC.) that provides an affordable rental program and a purchase program to meet the varying needs of our students. In the event that this is not an option for some families, Mr. Ogle and Mr. Garst work to ensure that there is no financial barrier to participate in Band. If you have any questions, please contact us at pioneerband@wcde.org.
What if I have never played an instrument before or cannot read music?
That is what we are here for! We will teach you how to play your instrument and work with you on how to read the music as well. No instrumental experience is required to join. We ask that you come with a can do attitude and we will help guide you on your musical journey.
What instruments are offered in Beginning Band?
We start students on the primary instruments in beginning band. Students have the option to start on Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, and Percussion. Our secondary instruments (Saxophone, French Horn, Oboe, Bassoon, and Tuba) are offered by audition at the completion of Beginning Band.
Why take Band?
Band offers a variety of career ready skills through the medium of music. Whether you plan to pursue a career in music or a career in the medical field, the skills obtained in Band are invaluable. Students learn about teamwork, leadership, dedication, perseverance, patience, persistence, and many other career ready skills sought after in the workforce.
