The Bobcat Bulletin

Dear FMS Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you well!

We have had a wonderful couple of weeks back from our winter break. We are, however, hoping for an early spring and perhaps warm deluge of rain to melt the thick layer of ice that plagues our playground. Your child may have mentioned that we have tried a few different recess alternatives this week to be able to get outside on safe terrain - and I know we are all looking forward to getting back on the playground.

Spring is a busy learning time in our classrooms and across our school. We also are close to starting our state testing, a requirement of the Vermont Agency of Education. Please see information below about the Vermont Common Assessment Program, or VTCAP.

Thank you for your participation in our family conferences over the past several weeks! We look forward to these opportunities throughout the year to connect directly with parents and caregivers to discuss your child’s progress. Our students have grown SO much this year, there are many achievements to celebrate!

We are about to begin VTCAP Testing at FMS. VTCAP is the Vermont Common Assessment Program. Please see the letter below from our Director of Learning and Instructional Impact, Jackie Tolman.

Our schedule is listed below. 3rd and 4th grade will take a Mathematics and English Language Arts Assessment. 5th graders will take a Mathematics, English Language Arts and Science Assessment. Please make note of the dates below, and try to avoid making appointments for your children on these days. Makeup testing will result in students needing to be out of the classroom at another time, so your attention to this is appreciated!

March 17-19: 5th Grade ELA VTCAP

March 24-25: 5th Grade Math VTCAP, 4th Grade Math VTCAP

April 2-4: 3rd Grade Math VTCAP

April 7-9: 5th Grade Science VTCAP, 4th Grade ELA VTCAP

April 14-16: 3rd Grade ELA VTCAP

We are looking to fill several open positions at FMS. Working at our school is a great way to connect with children, help our school community and be connected with all the goings-on at school. It is fulfilling and fun, and we truly have a great team of educators here!

March Madness: Favorite Song Battle!

During each music class students will listen to two songs and vote for their favorite one. Each student vote is tallied and the results are displayed after all classes have voted!
