Mission Trail Elementary

Dear Mission Trail Families,

I am writing this on Saturday from school. I am here having fun as I prepare for a staff treasure hunt this week as we get ready for winter break! Our gym is full of basketball practices! It is a busy place!

**Thank you, PTO Science on Wheels, Angela Strecker, Angela Randle, Danny Meneses and Lauren Hetherington, for putting this together for our 3rd-5th graders. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered and helped make this happen. Our students love this learning. Thanks to LMS for loaning us Mr. Bones!

Thank you to our PTO Staff Appreciation Committee for the Sunshine Cart visit on Friday! It is always an appreciate pick-me-up for teachers!

Most grades are winding up our winter assessments. We do the winter iReady diagnostic, winter Acadience screening, and the Fastbridge Assessment.

We will have our winter parties on Friday morning. Please remember volunteers are limited to the PTO Sign-up roles so that we have plenty of room for the children to enjoy the party. We dismiss at 11:45 on Friday. We will start our dismissal at 11:40 on Friday. Party volunteers and children, Center-based students and daycare busses will likely be few minutes earlier.

My next email message will be on Sunday, January 5th, 2025! WOW!

Please save the date for February 4th, 2025, for the 5th grade parent night for Leawood Middle School. We will be discussing enrollment, scheduling, the middle school experience, and other important information with all parents as they prepare for middle school. More information will be coming in January so watch your email.

Third, Fourth, & Fifth grades are RE-welcoming illustrator, Charlie Mylie on January 14. In 2022 he came with author Jordan Morris to talk to K-2 students about their book Out on a Limb. PTO is sponsoring this exciting event where he will visit with students about being an illustrator and the inspiration behind his creations. Of course he will do some live drawings! Treehouse Town is his latest collaboration with author Gideon Sterer. On January 14, there will be an opportunity to get books signed. Below are links to Treehouse Town and other books of his. There will also be an opportunity to win a spot to eat lunch with Charlie that day! Details to come.
