Shark Tales Weekly Update
Sheiko Elementary: May 31, 2024
PRINCIPAL UPDATE
Wow! What a week! The fifth graders were AMAZING at camp! We are so thankful to have had the opportunity to have such a memorable experience together, both at Camp Tanuga and “Camp Sheiko”. Be sure to see the details for 5th grade promotion in this newsletter.
We have two “Big Announcements” this week. The first “Big Announcement” is about field day on June 5th. Please be sure to send your child with a refillable water bottle, and all students should wear gym shoes.
The second “Big Announcement” is that NWEA reports are coming home on Tuesday in your child’s backpack. Please be sure to look for it, and review these results with your student.
Looking forward to a great week of learning and celebrating with our Sheiko Sharks!
Have a great weekend!

STUDENT COUNCIL
In March, our Sheiko Student Council had a Book Donation Drive in March where we collected 4,000 books from students. As a follow up, we allowed students (Pre-K, 3rd, 4th, and 5th) today to select as many books as they would like to read over the summer. The students were super excited and thankful!!!
FAMILY SURVEY
Dear West Bloomfield Families,
Thank you for being our valued partners as we work together to provide the best educational experience imaginable for the children in the West Bloomfield School District. We are proud to provide great opportunities for each student, and we aim to do an ever better job next school year.
As we prepare for the 2024-2025 school year, we are already diligently planning to enhance how we support each student’s journey. Your input and feedback will be instrumental in that planning, as it helps identify what is working and where we can grow as a district.
Therefore, we kindly ask you to take some time to complete this brief end-of-year survey: CLICK HERE FOR THE SURVEY. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thank you again for your support!
ATTENTION 4TH GRADERS
As we look ahead to the fall of 2024, we are excited to continue the longstanding tradition that 5th graders have the opportunity to become "safeties" as a leadership opportunity. These 5th grade "Laker Leaders" will be expected to lead the school in one (or more) ways. Current 4th grade students must complete the appropriate Google Form below by May 31, 2024 (for their 2024-2025 building) to be considered. Students should be sure to be signed in to their school account when they complete the form.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
Weekly SEL Family Activity:
On your own, create a list of 10 or 12 items you want kids to find. Note that this can be done inside or outside. For example, if outside, you might want them to find a plant, a pine cone, something blue, and something bumpy. If inside you might want them to find something yellow, something in the shape of a square, and something that makes noise. Give kids time to find these items and have them write them down on a piece of paper to document them.
