Dear Lake Forest School District 67 Resident:
Last month, Mrs. Alice LeVert announced her intent to resign from the District 67 Board of Education following her election as an Alderman for the City of Lake Forest. On Tuesday, April 30, Mrs. LeVert submitted her letter of resignation. Mrs. LeVert has served on the District 67 Board of Education with distinction since 2017. We are grateful for her contributions and wish her well in her newly elected position on the Lake Forest City Council.
Under the Illinois School Code, the responsibility for filling a vacancy, which will occur before the next scheduled school board election, falls to the remaining board members. We have 60 days from the date of resignation (April 30, 2024) to accomplish this, or the responsibility shifts to the Regional Superintendent of Schools. This vacancy is for the remainder of Mrs. LeVert’s term, ending in April 2025, when the position will be up for election.
It is our goal to have a selection process that is as open as possible. To this end, we encourage all interested and qualified individuals to apply. Keep in mind that service on the Board is a significant time commitment. Please read School Board Governance Basics published by the Illinois Association of School Boards to familiarize yourself with the major aspects of School Board service. If you are interested, please use the link below to submit your application.
Completed applications must be received by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Once the Board of Education has reviewed the applications, selected candidates will be interviewed, and an appointee will be installed at the Board Meeting on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
It is our goal to identify a person whose talents, interests, and experience will add to and complement those of the existing District 67 Board members. Since only one person can be selected, we hope the process outlined above will give the Board a list of qualified prospects for future community involvement in school initiatives and committees.
If you have questions about the process or what it entails to be a District 67 Board member, please contact Board Clerk Tiana Tolver.
Sincerely,
Annie Geraghty Helms
President
