From the Desk of your School Leader...
Dear Parents,
DO:
- · Encourage your child and give lots of affection.
- · Reward good behavior. Praise your child and give extra attention when he or she does something right. Give a reward for good behavior.
- · Your child will copy your actions and words. Act and speak the way you want your child to act and speak.
- · Be kind, but firm.
- · Ignore some small problems or annoying behaviors. Bigger problems need to be corrected, especially if the child's bad behavior might be harmful or dangerous.
- · Be consistent. Always treat a bad behavior the same way, or your child will learn that he or she can sometimes “get away with it.”
- · Correct your child soon after the bad behavior occurs, but wait until your anger has passed. Counting to 10 before you say something or do something may help reduce your anger so you are in control of yourself.
- · Make rules that are right for your child's age. Rules work best for children who are school-aged.
- · Correct older children by taking away things they like (TV or video games, or time with friends).
· DON'T:
- · Don't nag or talk about bad behavior too much. Children ignore nagging.
- · Don't try reasoning to get your point across to children younger than three or four years. They won't understand.
- · Don't criticize your child.
- · Don't call your child names.
- · Don't call your child “bad.” Only the behavior is bad.
- · Don't scold too often. Scolding makes children anxious and may make them ignore you. It may also worsen the behavior. Never scold your child during time-out.
Thank you for partnering with us in our children's educational journey; together, we build brighter futures.

Attendance Matters on Fridays and Mondays Too!
Did you know that Friday is the day when most students are absent, closely followed by Monday? Many of these absences aren't due to critical reasons. However, it's important to understand that Fridays often include tests and quizzes, and missing these days can impact your child's educational performance.
We encourage families to reserve family vacations for times when MAS does not have school. This ensures that your child can be present on all school days, allowing them to continue their learning uninterrupted.
Let's work together to prioritize attendance and ensure that every day counts in your child's education journey!

Teacher Triumphs: Spotlighting Excellence in Education
Cheyenne Valdespino is a 5th grade science teacher at MAS. Her passion for working with kids comes from a background strongly rooted in community out reach and inclusion. Ms.Valdespino achieved a Bachelor's Degree in Counseling & Community Psychology. This degree pushed her to gain experience directly providing behavior modifications to children with autism. Her involvement with these children led her to pursue the goal of ensuring all children receive a high quality, inclusive, academic education that provides social emotional learning to help them tackle tough situations in both their professional and personal life. By using positive engagement and hands on application of scientific strategies/models, Ms. V. encourages students to become scientists who problem solve and courageously take charge of their destiny.
