BACK TO SCHOOL PANUI
TE KURA O HUATOKI. TERM 1, 2025.
FROM RYVES...
NAU MAI, HAERE MAI
Kia ora koutou parents and whānau-welcome to a new school year!
I hope you all had a wonderful break-enjoying time with family and friends, relaxing, and making the most of the opportunities that the summer holidays bring. I hope that everyone arrives at school on Monday with fresh energy and a desire to connect with classmates and start learning.
As we move towards the first day of school, I would like to acknowledge our teachers. Their hard work in preparing classrooms, planning rich learning experiences, and ensuring a warm, welcoming environment for our tamariki has laid the foundations for a positive start.
This year, we are renewing our focus on learning and with that, we encourage every child to embrace new opportunities, take ownership of their learning, and to work hard to achieve their personal best-both inside and outside the classroom. As a community, let’s make 2025 a year of collaboration and support so that every learner feels valued, challenged and inspired.
Enjoy the last few days and see you next week!
WHAT TO DO ON THE FIRST MORNING…
When you arrive at school just head to straight to your class. If you can’t remember which class you are in, then try finding your teacher from last year or head to the office to ask.
Once you get to your room make sure you say a big ‘hello’ to your teacher, put your bag away, put any gear into your tote tray then catch up with your friends. Don’t forget your hat too!
SWIMMING
The pool will get plenty of use over the first half of the term-especially if the weather stays like it has been!
Each class teacher will have a swimming timetable that identifies their days and they’ll share this information with you. On swimming days, please make sure your child comes to school with their togs and a towel. A bag to put clothes into while swimming and wet gear when finished is also really useful.
It is an expectation that all children participate-swimming is just like any other subject. If your child cannot swim they need a note for the time that they cannot participate.
If you have any questions then please contact your child’s teacher.

ROOM 12 TEACHER APPOINTMENT
I am pleased to inform you that we have made an appointment for a new teacher to join our staff, teaching in Room 12.
Unfortunately, we are unable to share further details about her until her current school community has been informed. This will occur after the school year has started. We will keep you updated and provide more information as soon as it is appropriate to do so.
Due to the notice period she is required to give, she will not be able to join us until Week 7 of Term 1. Until this time, Mrs Laura Seed and Mrs Jillian Sutton will be teaching in Room 12 in a job-share capacity. Both are experienced teachers at Vogeltown School, and I am confident that their combined expertise will ensure a smooth start to the year for all tamariki.
WELCOME TO CAITLIN AMOS
We are delighted to welcome Caitlin to our Huatoki team and are grateful to have someone with her experience and expertise joining us.
Caitlin comes to us from St Pius X School, where she has been teaching in the junior school. Her knowledge of foundational learning skills will be a valuable addition to teaching and learning in her class, benefiting both students and colleagues alike.
It has been wonderful to see Caitlin quickly establish connections within the team and contribute in team settings.
Please join us in making Caitlin feel warmly welcomed to the Vogeltown whānau!
THANK YOU!
Over the school holidays, Katy McLean, Erin O’Neill, Jacqui Gnoth, Maxine Conroy, Kim Proffit, and Kylie and Dave Hunt gave their time to help with our junior school grounds. Their work included weeding, clearing gardens and overgrown areas, and painting-no small task!
Their contribution reflects the wonderful community spirit we have at Vogeltown School and we are very grateful for their efforts in making this space more attractive and inviting for our children.
WEET-BIX KIDS TRYATHLON 2025
The 2025 Weet-Bix Kids Tryathlon is being held in New Plymouth on Tuesday 25th March 2025 at Ngamotu Beach.
If you wish to enter your child and register them under the Vogeltown School group, here is the link to do this:
http://raceroster.com/events/2025/93896/new-plymouth-weet-bix-kids-tryathlon/register?team=714836
We will have a Vogeltown tent up for children to meet but parents are responsible for their children on the day.
STATIONERY LISTS
Stationery lists were sent out with reports last year. To support teachers and children with learning, it is important that all children have their stationery for the first day of school. While you can still order online, the wait time to receive your order means that you are better off heading into Warehouse Stationery to purchase the items needed.
ABSENCES
Attendance at school is an important ingredient for success with learning and also maintaining a positive attitude towards school.
We ask that all parents ensure children attend school regularly, inform the school of any absence (and communicate the reason for this), and have children at school in plenty of time to get settled for the start of the day.
You can let know of any absence by calling or emailing office@vogeltown.school.nz
SCHOOL HATS FOR THIS TERM
It's that time of year when our tamariki need protection from the sun's harmful rays - bucket hats must be worn every day during Term 4. We have the famous Vogeltown School bucket hats for sale at the senior office for $20 each, but any bucket hat can be worn. Children not wearing a hat will need to remain in a shaded area during break times. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
