Come and learn about your student’s experience with the ELL Program at KV. During this evening, we will:

● Help parents understand WIDA ACCESS score reports.

● Explain what students need to do to improve their language skills.

● Discuss school policies such as attendance and eLearning Days.

● Explain new testing policies for IREAD and WIDA.

● Have give-aways and awards for students.

Vengan y conozcan la experiencia de su estudiante con el Programa ELL en KV. Durante esta tarde, vamos a:

● Ayudar a los padres a comprender los informes de calificaciones de WIDA ACCESS.

● Explicar lo que los estudiantes deben hacer para mejorar sus habilidades lingüísticas.

● Discutir políticas escolares como asistencia y días de eLearning.

● Explicar las nuevas políticas de pruebas para IREAD y WIDA.

This year's Field Day will be on Thursday, May 15th. We have a scheduled rain date for Monday, May 19th. If you are interested in watching your child participate in Field Day, please park at the Wheatfield Little League Fields Parking Lot and go walk to the viewing area. Here is the schedule for the day:

Second Grade: 9:15-10:20

Third Grade: 10:30-11:35

Kindergarten & First: 12:45-1:50

The LAST DAY OF SCHOOL is Friday, May 23rd. Report Cards will be posted on Skyward Family Access on Friday, May 30th. If you would like a copy of the report card, you can stop by the office before Wednesday, June 4th or call in and request one be mailed to you.

We will be posting all items in our 'Lost & Found' soon on Class Dojo. Please take a look at those pictures when they are posted and leave a comment to claim what is yours!

REMINDER: Please call the office if you need to make a change for your child's dismissal transportation. Please call in before 1:00 pm. For example: You will be picking your child up rather than riding the bus home. Please DO NOT message your child's teacher on Class Dojo. We want to make sure the message gets to your child and your child's teacher. Please call in at 219-956-3221. Please call in before 1:00 pm. Thank you!

A reminder that we dismiss at 3:25 PM for Parent Pick-Up. Due to safety concerns with traffic backing up to the highway, we begin releasing students 3-5 minutes before our scheduled dismissal of 3:25 PM for Parent Pick-Up students. We are asking for your assistance with arriving to pick-up your child closer to 3:25 PM. This will prevent the line from backing up into the highway. Your assistance with this request is very much appreciated!

Some Attendance Tips:

• Make sure your student keeps a regular bedtime and establishes a morning routine.

• Turn off all electronics including TVs, phones, and tablets at bedtime.

• Have backpack and clothes prepared the night before.

• Check with our school nurse or office staff if you are not sure about when to keep your child at home due to illness.

• Avoid scheduling vacations while school is in session.

• Make every effort to schedule doctor appointments around school hours.

• Talk to teachers and our social worker for advice if your student feels anxious about going to school.

• In the event that your student cannot get to school in their normal manner, develop a plan with another family member or trusted adult to get them to school that day.

If you have a pre-planned absence for your child, you will need to complete KV's Pre-Planned Absence Form. This needs to be completed at least 2 days prior to the absence(s). You can stop by our School Office for one or request one from your child's teacher. Thank you!

If your child was recommended and registered for Jump Start Summer School, that will begin on Monday, July 21st. A postcard will be mailed to you a week or so before Jump Start begins with reminder information.

If you know of a new student that moved to Wheatfield over the summer, we will have New Student Registration on Wednesday, July 23rd and Thursday, July 24th. They will need to stop by WES on those days to register for next school year.

Our 'Back to School' Open House will be on Wednesday, August 6th. Kindergarten begins promptly at 5:00 pm. 1st-3rd grades will be Open House style from 6:00-7:00 pm. Just a reminder to bring your child's school supplies that night. It saves them from having to carry it all in on the first day of school.

The first day of school for the 2025-2026 school year is Friday, August 8th! We can't wait to begin another great year at WES. For now...let's look forward and enjoy a beautiful Summer Break!
