St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 6 I 15 November 2024
Good afternoon, everyone.
We have been blessed with beautiful weather this past week and it has been really great to see all our play areas being very well used and greatly enjoyed! A number of very responsible Year 6 students have been helping me to keep the grass as green as we can while the bore is replaced which I am extremely grateful for!
A friendly reminder that now the warm weather is here to stay (even though it is raining next week), so please make sure your child’s lunchbox has a cooler brick in it to keep recess and lunchtime food as cool as possible – thank you!
A huge thank you to our Year 6 students who organised our Remembrance Day assembly on Monday. Students honoured all those brave men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty, trying to make our world a safer place for all. Also on Monday, Kindy 2025 Orientation & parent morning tea was held. What a wonderful opportunity for parents, children and staff to have a chat and to get excited about all the great things to come!
The Year 5 Leadership Day was held today as an opportunity for our incoming leaders to explore some important aspects to being a leader that they may not have necessarily considered before. Overall, it supports the idea that being a leader is very much about giving service and being a good role model to others. Our current Year 6 Leaders have done an absolutely fantastic job this year and we look forward to another successful year in 2025.
Today was also our Fume Free Friday invitation! Many thanks to students and families who made the effort to walk, ride or scooter to school today. While we completely understand that it isn’t possible for all families to get to school in this way, by joining in these types of experiences when you can, gives you the opportunity to talk to your kids about being a responsible citizen, the importance of staying physically active, staying safe on our way to school, and doing our part to reduce pollution where we can. Thanks Mums and dads!
A reminder that all St Bernadette’s families are warmly invited to the next Parish/School Community Mass on Saturday the 23/11/2024 from 6-7pm. This is a great opportunity for you to catch up with other families and to pray for one another. We would love it if you would pop this date in your diary!
Many thanks to all our families for supporting our annual SVDP appeal. These donations are greatly appreciated and put to very good use at a time of year when some families out in the community are doing it very tough indeed.
Finally, as you have seen, there are a lot of upgrades happening around the school. These have been years in the making and we are very excited to see the finished product. A number of people have asked about the new build, so I will collate some information next week and send this out to the community.
Have an awesome weekend!

Pixie Post is back! Week 7 & 8
Children write out their cards at home and place the student/teachers name on the front and the class that they are in.
They bring them to school and, rather than you having students running around in your rooms at the beginning of the day handing out cards, they post them into the postbox that will be outside of the library.
The pixies then sort the post and deliver to the classrooms.
Information has been sent out to our current Year 2 and Year 3 parents regarding our Device Program for 2025. Next year Year 3's will have access to iPads in the classroom and the Year 4's will be introduced to our 1:1 Device Program.
To ensure a smooth introduction of iPads into these classrooms, we have partnered with WA Child Safety Services to deliver workshops for staff, students, and parents on 6 February 2025. These sessions will focus on safe, responsible, and effective use of technology.
We invite all 2025 Year 3 & 4 families to attend the parent workshop, scheduled for the evening of 6 February 2025. During this session, you will receive practical advice on supporting your child’s learning with technology and insights into how iPads will be used to enhance classroom activities.
An electronic registration form for the parent workshop will be sent out before the end of this term to confirm your attendance. We encourage at least one parent or caregiver to attend this important event.
If you have any questions about the introduction of iPads for Year 3 students or the workshop, please contact Mr Wayne Sly.
Lost Property
Please check the lost property box in the Library, it is full again with bottles, lunchboxes and uniforms!
Interschool Shirts
Please double check your cupboards and wash baskets for interschool shirts, we are missing quite a few. Please drop them into the office as soon as possible.
Change of Contact Details
If you have recently had any changes to your contact details, telephone numbers, emails or physical address details, please ensure you notify the office. It is imperative that we have up to date and correct details.
Year Pre-Primary and Year 1 have developed their emotional literacy this year through the Kimochi Curriculum which recognises that excellent communication skills, are at the heart of social-emotional competence. Students have learnt to identify and label key emotions in themselves and others through six principles of character education to encourage our students to become respectful, responsible, resilient, compassionate, kind and brave. Students were able to identify how they are like the Kimochis in order to overcome big emotional moments at school and home. The students learnt how to use a range of regulation strategies such as breathing, meditation, use of sensory tools and yoga in order to reset. The students enjoyed a Kimochi Party where they were able to practice some newly learnt skills to promote a sense of inclusion an celebrate their hard work in this space.
Thank-you to the Wellbeing Captains Jevi and Renae who helped with the party activities, and congratulations to all students who applied their friendly talking faces and voices in order to have fun with their Kimochi friends and peers.
Warmest Regards,
Jacqueline Deshon
