Another great week for our Grizzly staff and students at NHS. The weather is cooling off and fall is fully happening. There is amazing teaching and learning going on in and out of our classrooms.

Parents & Students...please remember Attendance Matters. The more your student is in attendance at school, the more likely they are to pass their classes and graduate on time. Help them to create habits to get to school everyday, on time and ready to learn.

Newport High School Athletics Sports Schedules

The Newport, WA/Priest River, ID Rotary Club is recognizing senior student's each month as Senior Student of the Month. This award is "For embodying and displaying admirable character traits including, but not limited to, compassion, kindness, work ethic, respect, responsibility, and volunteerism. This months Newport High School Senior Student of the Month is Torah Horton.

Join us at Newport High School to create your own custom spirit shirt for Homecoming. All you will need to bring is a t-shirt, your family, and friends. We are looking forward to seeing you on September 25th as we build our spirit together.

Our Mama & Papa Bear Mentors met with their Freshman on Friday. This is a time for our upperclassmen students to make connections with our freshmen. This helps our students create a positive culture within the halls of NHS and a sense of belonging for all of our students, especially our freshmen. Grizzlies helping Grizzlies!

Our very own Theodore "Teddi" ThunderClaw escaped his enclosure at the high school and made his way to Stratton Elementary on Friday morning to greet students as they arrived at school. Fun was had by all! A BIG Grizzly greeting little Grizzlies!

Be ready to fill your stomach's before the Homecoming game!!! This will take place behind the High School by the old softball field.

We have an exciting new opportunity to better support our students and families! Newport School District has partnered with Daybreak Health to offer 1:1 Teletherapy (ages 10+) at no cost to families! Our goal is to reduce barriers to accessing needed services and to partner with families in offering additional mental health support because MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS!

The 1:1 Teletherapy is a 12-week virtual therapy program specifically designed for teens who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, stress, trauma, disordered eating, self-harm, and additional challenges students may encounter. There is even a personalized matching process to be sure that each student is matched with the right therapist to best meet their needs. These sessions are virtual and can take place at school or at home, all the student needs is an internet connection and phone or tablet with a safe space to talk! The sessions are 50 minutes each and offered Monday - Saturday 8am - 8 pm. Students wanting to meet with their therapist during the school day will be provided with a space to do so. If a student has current insurance, Daybreak will bill for the session, but there will be no out of pocket cost to families. If a student is uninsured, there will be no cost to families for participating.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month —a time to raise awareness of this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic. Let us shift public perception, spread hope, and share vital information with people affected by suicide. The goal is to ensure that individuals, friends and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help. If you are concerned about a friend or yourself, please stop by and talk with Ms. Daylan, Mrs. Anderson, or Ms. Thomasson. They will be there and excited to see you!
