I look forward to working together for a successful school year for our Milam Mustangs.
Our theme this year at Milam is “100 Years, 1 Community." Milam Elementary joined the Conroe Independent School District 100 years ago. We will honor Milam Elementary and the Milam Community throughout the school year.
We would love to have your feedback on how we are doing. Here at Milam, we always are looking for ways we can improve and we want your feedback on how the school year has been so far for you and your student. Please take the time to click on the link below for the survey:

Here is the link to register to volunteer https://apps.conroeisd.net/volunteer/ It is very important for the safety of our students to have parents complete the volunteer form for any events where there will be in contact with students other than their own child, such as fieldtrips, classroom parties, etc.. We strongly encourage you to complete this form as part of the beginning of the school year process to avoid any inconvenience throughout the school year.
Transportation changes: Changes are made by emailing the change to milam@conroeisd.net with a copy of your ID before 2:00 pm.
If you need to pick up your child early, you must do so before 2:30 p.m. through the front office.
Smart Tags: Please help us keep smart tags attached to backpacks. A replacement Smart Tag will cost $2.00.
Prioritizing Safety: All staff and visitors must wear a visible badge at all times, with visitors’ badges including a time and date stamp. Safety is our ultimate responsibility and takes all of us working together.

Library and Technology News:
In the library we are learning how to take care of our library books. We are also learning about the different types of books we can read and how to pick a book that is just right.
Conroe ISD Library Services enabled daily email notifications, so that you are informed of the items checked out by your student. Daily emails will list the item(s) currently checked out. If the book(s) your children selected is not a good fit, please have your student return it to Mrs. McAlister in the library and choose a new book.
This is just a tool to help you, the parent and/or guardian, stay informed of the material your child is checking out in the library. This is an automated message sent from the district.
If you no longer wish to receive these daily emails, you can TURN OFF this notification, by going to your Parent Access Account, log into your child's account, click on Student Information, click on Notifications, and click the button to turn off library notifications. If you choose to turn off the notifications, you will not receive any emails about library materials, including the overdue notices, sent out by Mrs. McAlister.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. McAlister, wmcalister@conroeisd.net
Notes from Instructional Coaches
ELA:
Did you know that just 20 minutes of reading with your child each day can make a huge impact on their development? Daily reading helps improve vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. It also strengthens the bond between you and your child, creating a positive association with learning. Whether it’s a bedtime story or a quiet moment during the day, these 20 minutes can spark a lifelong love for reading and set the foundation for academic success!
Math:
To encourage your child in mathematics at home please try to incorporate math discussions whenever you can. Some ideas on how to incorporate math in your home: Discuss money (coins and bills) and/or count money. Try cooking or baking with your child and have them observe fractions and discuss the size of different fractions. Encourage your child to discuss what they are learning in class.

GT Referral Window
Referral requests are now open for the Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or campus staff. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher. Referrals will be accepted October 1- December 19, 2024. You may request a referral form from the front office or Mrs. Bart, the counselor. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.

Hello Milam families! With the flu and cold season beginning, we are focusing on hand washing to stop the spread of germs. Please discuss with your children the importance of washing hands with soap and water or using hand sanitizer. Starting in October we will have "Hand washing monitors" who will take the names of students observed washing or sanitizing their hands properly. The names will be put in a weekly drawing for a prize from the treasure chest. Together we can fight germs and stop the spread of illnesses! Thank you for your support in keeping our campus healthy!
