Dear KDM Community,
The students had a great week at KDM! Grades 1 through 5 have completed both their iReady Math and ELA Diagnostic Assessments. Teachers will meet this upcoming week to review student data and collaborate on strategies and support to meet the individual needs of our students.
The KDM faculty and staff are looking forward to welcoming our families to Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 25th. I will host a meet and greet beginning at 6:30 pm. At 7:00 pm we will begin our programming for the evening. The KDM PTA, as well as other community organizations, and Superintendent, Dr. Corbett, are slated to be in attendance. The teachers are hosting this event as an informative night for parents and caregivers only. Please make alternate arrangements for students or siblings.
Next Friday, KDM will host its highly successful Walk-a-Thon. Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative. A special thank you to the PTA for coordinating this awesome event!
Tonight is Candy Bar Bingo at 6:30 pm. I look forward to a great game of Bingo with my students and families! I hope you can attend this family-friendly community builder!
I wish you all a joyful and relaxing weekend!

Reminders and Updates
- Dr. Corbett: September is Attendance Awareness Month
I would like to acknowledge that the State of New Jersey has designated September as
Attendance Awareness Month. As we embark on another exciting school year, I want to take a
moment to emphasize an essential factor in your child's success: regular school attendance. In
Rockaway Township, we firmly believe that consistent attendance is fundamental to your child's academic and personal growth. Please take a moment to readattached Chronic Absenteeism .pdf.
- Back to School Night:
We look forward to sharing our school with you during Back to School Night on Wednesday September 25th. Please join your child’s teachers to find out more about what’s in store for them this year during this informative evening.
Please note:
This evening is an informative night for parents only. Please make alternate arrangements for students or siblings.
Teachers will be in their designated instructional spaces/rooms. Please see the enclosed schedule.
As there is limited time for teachers to convey all the information they need to share, this is not a time for individual conferences. Should you have any questions specific to your child, please email your teacher to arrange an alternate time to speak.
Back to School Night is divided into two sessions:
6:30 - 7:00 pm Meet and Greet
7:00 - 7:30 pm Session 1 (Kindergarten through 2nd Grade)
7:30 - 8:00 pm Session 2 (Grades 3 through 5)
Feel free to visit our special areas teachers and intervention teachers at any time.
- After School Clubs and Enrichment Programs: After School Club Descriptions went home in your child's backpack yesterday. The online After School Club Sign-up link will open on Monday (9/23) at NOON. Clubs are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. If your student is enrolled in the club, you will receive a form on either Sept. 24 or 25 asking for additional information and payment.
- Safety Alert: If you are dropping off your child in the morning, please do not drop them off in the parking lot and send them unescorted into the building. Either escort your child all the way to the building or follow the procedures of driving through the parent drop-off lane. Please help us keep your children safe.
- Late Arrivals to School: If your child is late to school due to a medical appointment, please provide a doctor's note so it will be considered an "excused tardy."
Parent Pick-Up Procedures: On the days that parents pick their child up from school, we ask that they email their child's teacher and our attendance secretary, Christina Markowitch (cmarkowitch@rocktwp.net) or Jude Wallin (jwallin@rocktwp.net) by 12pm. This ensures that your child is in the appropriate place for dismissal and eliminates confusion. Please use the visitor's spots in the front lot or the parking lot across the street.
- Genesis Parent Portal: HERE you will find vital information regarding your child’s schedule, teacher’s name, and bus assignments.
Communication Framework: Click HERE. In order to ensure that all communications are directed to the right person, please use this framework with regard to all school-related inquiries

Building Our Community
"We are back in the full swing of things in the KDM art room! All of Mrs. Reilly's K-5 classes had the opportunity to paint this week and will be continuing their painting projects next week. If you haven't already done so, please make sure you've sent in a smock for your child to wear on art days so that we don't have to worry about keeping our clothes clean while we're busy creating masterpieces!" --Mrs. Reilly

KDM Walk-a-Thon FUNdraiser Update!
With this incredible milestone, we’re excited to fulfill immediate needs and start rewarding our kids’ efforts with fantastic new recess items that will make playtime even more enjoyable and inclusive all year long—both indoors and outdoors. But that’s not all! We’re also looking into options for new playground equipment that can benefit our students for years to come. We want to ensure that our choices reflect the needs of our entire community. While we still have some decisions to make and discussions to have, if we keep this momentum going, there’s no limit to what we can achieve together! Let’s set our sights on the next goal of $12,500! We’re so grateful for your support and can’t wait to see what we accomplish next! Thank you for being such an essential part of the KDM family!
