We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the students who participated in the Kindness Club's candy donation drive for veterans. Your generosity truly exceeded expectations, and we are thrilled to share that you collectively filled five full baskets with candy, which will now be shared with those who have served our country. The challenge set by the Kindness Club was met with incredible enthusiasm, and your thoughtful contributions will undoubtedly brighten the spirits of many veterans. This act of kindness is a powerful reminder of the impact we can have on our community when we come together with a shared purpose. We are so proud of our students for demonstrating such empathy and compassion. Thank you for your support, and for showing the true meaning of gratitude and community service!

A huge thank you to our wonderful PTC for organizing such a fun and special Grandparents Breakfast and Book Fair! It was a joy to see so many families come together, while also fostering a love of reading. The smiles and laughter shared throughout the event truly made it a memorable experience for everyone involved. We appreciate all the time and effort the PTC put into making this event so successful, and we look forward to more community-building activities in the future. Thank you for making this a morning to remember! There is more fun tonight at the popcorn social. Stop by from 6:00-7:30 p.m. for another opportunity to purchase books and socialize with friends.

Community Consolidated School District 89 moved parent-teacher conferences to October this year; conferences had previously been held Thanksgiving week. The district has created a short survey to gather feedback about parent-teacher conferences. We want to hear from parents who did and did not participate in conferences. The DuPage Regional Office of Education is offering the required training for a short-term substitute teaching license. The training will take place online from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 7. A new Illinois law allows individuals with 60 hours of college credit to apply for a short-term substitute license. More info: https://bit.ly/4f87laH

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, there will be an in-person screening of the short film “Saving Superman” about Jonathan, a Glen Ellyn resident who has autism spectrum disorder. Johnathan is well-known in the community for serving as Superman in local parades. This evening will also be a celebration of “Best Buddies”, a friendship program for adults with disabilities. At noon and 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, professor and author Kara Alaimo will discuss how social media may be affecting every aspect of our lives and why so much of the content in our feeds is designed to hold us back. She will share strategies for how we can use the platforms to empower ourselves and others for good. Preview. This free online event is part of the GPS Parent Series. The DuPage County “Smile Squad” will be offering free dental exams at our school on November 21. This exam will meet the state-mandated requirements for kindergarten, second, and sixth graders. All students can receive a free dental exam and toothbrush. If your child meets financial eligibility requirements, they can also receive a free cleaning, fluoride treatment, and sealants.

Parents and community members can support CCSD 89 musicians by ordering trees, wreaths, and holiday decorations through the D89 Music Boosters Association. The last day to place an order is Tuesday, November 12. Orders will be available for pick up on December 7 at Glen Crest. You can place your order and see images of the items by using this form. Uninsured and low-income families can receive a voucher for a free flu vaccine at any DuPage County Jewel-Osco until February 25. No appointment or prescription is needed, but supplies are limited. More info: https://bit.ly/3AgjrzF

Health departments are offering tips on how to tell the difference between a cold and the flu and information on the flu vaccine.
